The basics
just thought i'd let everyone know my experience of buying the prime in the UK and my first impressions.
I like many others have been long awaiting the 12th January for the release of the prime. Unlike many others i did not pre-order the unit as i considered that i may be able to walk in and buy it on the day of purchase. I was wrong it seemed no electronics retailers had any for the shelves and even pre-order customers who had ordered from PC world, Curry's and even amazon were dissapointed on the day of release. I was about to give up and wait when i remembered Ebuyer. Here i found plenty of Amethyst grey primes and was able to purchase one on the spot and and had it delivered the very next morning. Simplicity itself. So thank you ebuyer for being so utterly on the ball and reliable as usual. As for my first impressions? well i am a first time tablet owner but have had many android phone. In short i love it. The dock really does make it a fairly decent productivity tool, the build and quality is amazing as is the battery life. My only real criticism is based around the app market there really isn't much for tablets out there much less for Tegra devices i really hope this improves as the apps and games that are there work very very well and in terms of hardware for a second generation device the Prime really sets a very high benchmark.
Stylish brilliance
operating system:Windows 7I have my prime just few days and I love it! Best £499 I spend to the date.
Pros:
- Battery life
- Super fast quod core processor
- Stylish design
- IPS panel (excellent if you doing lots of photographs and want your pictures to appear like on your expensive IPS monitor)
- I can feed it with 1080p matroska file and will play it happly without time waste for encoding to lover quality/resolution.
Cons:
- WiFi and GPS signal it's weaker due to aluminium back case.
- Won't charge from a usb port on the laptop or pc which is 5V this need 15V supplied from wall charger.
Excellent device, worth the wait
operating system:OtherAs I did not pre-order, I had to wait in order to get one. I will try and limit this review to what others may not have mentioned.
Upon opening the box, the tablet had a really nice look to it. The shiny effect from the aluminium case works really well with the fact that it's not completely grey. It has a touch of purple to it, which looks superb. It also has a really smooth feel to it.
The dock works really well. It is very easy to dock into the keyboard, and dock out again. Although I was extra careful the first time, I had no problems in doing it. When docked in, it is very secure. You cannot tell that it is a tablet ans looks and feels just like a netbook. A number of people I showed it to actually thought it was a netbook until i seperated the tablet. They've done a great job with this.
Upgrading to ICS was as simple as could be. Simply go to settings, search for updates and let it install. Once it starts you can leave it to do its thing, which takes approx 20 minutes.
They keys in the keyboard have slight spaces between them, so this might take some getting used. Wasn't a problem for me though. But they still do feel solid like on a normal laptop keyboard. The keys and touchpad are just as repsonsive as my ASUS laptop.
The Wi-Fi on it works absolutely fine. It doesn't have quite the distance as my ASUS laptop, but isn't far off. For some reason the signal seems to get stronger once I am connected. Haven't been able to connect the GPS yet, but this doesn't concern me as i have no use for it on the tablet.
Using my Android phone as a Wi-Fi hotspot, I have managed to connect the EeePad to the phone and browsed the Internet. This is a very useful feature that can be used while on the go. Of course it drains the battery on the phone very quickly, but still a very useful feature.
The sound on the Transformer Prime is good. And you have the option of connecting speakers or headphones which is always a good option. The speaker, however, is not well placed as it is positioned in the natural holding position so you're right had can come in the way.
I am very pleased that I ordered one of these and would recommend it to anyone wanting a tablet. To some the price tag may be off putting, but it is well worth the money. Great Poduct, and in my opinion better than the iPad 2!
Arrived yesterday!! Such an awesome Tablet!
operating system:Not Applicablewell as the title describes! Mine arrived yesterday and I have to say so far so good! its faultless (bar the gps) the wifi is great and picks up my router better than the ipad! The Build quality is amazing for the money and it feels like a real solid piece of kit, My colleagues in work could not believe that its only 500 quid! battery life has been great to! I am at the moment running the laptop on android 4.0 and i'm very pleased with it, deffinetly the best ipad rival that I have come across :D.
