Truly Amazing

I Pre-ordered this camera before its release because the reviews were astounding and it never dissapointed. It was £800 just a fews short months ago and i thought it was great value for money then, so snap it up, its a bargain at this price. The picture quality is astounding with or without experience with an SLR, you can leave it on automatic for hassle free great quality photos, but there are also many professional features built in to allow you to play around with the lighting etc.

This camera is a truly amazing buy, for the professional or the avid photographer. If you are getting this you should also get a very large SD card, as the photos are around 3~6 Mb depending on the picture quality etc, a 2GB card tends to hold 250 Photos at highest quality.

Excellent camera.
But be known that you can NOT register camera with Nikon. No UK warranty. Grey Goods.
Wondered why my camera menus were set to Japanese.
Five stars because the camera is excellent though.

Brilliant

Briliiant camera amazing quality and easy to use. The only thing I would have to say is you need to get use to the camera you cant just take it out and get aazing pictures straight away. I have recently gone on a photography trip to Italy naples and beein a young photogpher the camera was amazing and so easy to use. Most of the time I was just using the Landscape and Portrait modes. And the pictures are brilliant. It can be on the heavy side but you will get use to it . I just see the weight of more of more of a bonus and that it will take more more abuse.

Nikon D80 - All the camera you'll need....

Having previously owned the Nikon D70 I was a little disappointed with its results, then came the D80. Wow what a camera! It felt like boys to men swapping over, gone were the poor low level focus issues, gone were the high grain in low light condition spoilers. In comes a HUGE 2.5 inch screen on the back, A much improved sensor and quicker USB2 interface. This camera feels like the real thing, while it might not have the magnessium shell of the D200 the camre feels robust, this is not like the D40x that feels small in your hands, this feels like a true top end bit of kit. All the dials are quick and easy to use, you can flick between ISO speeds, Shutter sppeds, F-stops, Light metering and a number of other functions all without having to go into the computer interface. All these functions are a couple of clicks away! With the massive 10.2mp sensor you can guaretee a crisp A4 size image and even up to A3 if you're bold enough.

If I do have any niggles they are personal silly issues, it annoys me that I am still reduced to 3fps, it would have been nice to have gone up a notch to 4 or even 4.5 (this would have put it somewhere between the D40x and D200) Also, when you take a photograph, the image will automatically be displayed on the screen (no problem there) If you then want to take another photo and start to change the shutter speed the screen on back will start to flick through your card images and not alter the speed, a quick half press on the trigger will bring it back to the camera and allow you to change the shutter but it is a little bit annoying when you are perhaps trying to capture a moment...

Still over all I would have given the D70 3.5 out of 5, the D80 though gets a well deserved 4.8!

Fantastic but why

I was to buy the D80 but then I read the reviews (not these ones). I agree that this is a brilliant camera but if you are aware of price vs value - look closely at the latest D40 for 420ish.

One of the 2 gripes mentioned was - that the picture automatically played back. This is the case using the default settings but you can turn this off within about 5 seconds. Here's how incase you needed to know...

When the camera is on press Menu (Next to the screen), Go to Custom Settings, No 6. on the list is 'Image Review' simply turn this to off and thats it done. Anyways for my opinions on the camera see 'Truly amazing' (Above).

Am VERY happy with this camera as even the point and click results are coming out better than expected. BUT be aware that this does NOT carry a Nikon warranty, so is NOT eligible for their cashback offer ->

The warranty on this is covered by EBuyer so you only need refer to the

online returns process in the event of any fault.

This item is not advertised as qualifying for a cashback offer. <- Still it's a very good price for this camera.
