Really excellent piece of kit
operating system:Windows 7First off, it wasn't really clear to me what was in the box & what else was needed in order to add it to my network. I got the answer very quickly from solutions@ebuyer.com (thanks!) , so for the benefit of anyone else considering this switch - this is what you get:
The switch itself is a combination powerline adapter & network switch - you will need an additional regular powerline adaptor plugged into your router in order to make it work.
I already had 2, one to the router and another connecting to my desktop. I bought the switch in order to connect my media player and blu-ray player which were in another room. The setup was very easy, just a case of plugging in the switch then pressing the security button on all 3 adaptors.
If you're connecting more than one device to this switch, then you will need some additional network cable as the box only contains one very short length.
The unit itself is very small and unobtrusive & because everything is combined the power plug is a regular size rather than an enormous wallwart.
I'm really happy with my new network, I swapped over from wifi because of awful interference causing the connections to be very unstable - this is a really hassle free way of going wired, 5 stars!
Great kit
operating system:Windows 7 I brought a Netgear pass-thru adapter as well, plugged them in, turned them on, pushed connection/security buttons on both. By the time I returned downstairs to check lights on 4 port adapter it was connected. Connected up blue ray first it started to download firmware upgrade, I now have BBC iplayer and films on demand on my HD Humax freesat box (not all makes of freesat box are compatable yet)
No need to install software unless you want to check connection speed. I get between 133 and 145 Mbps, the wall adapter is plugged in directly to wall socket by router upstairs in my study and this 4-port adapter is plugged into wall socket by TV. One is in my upstairs ring circuit and the other is in the downstairs ring, so one assumes that if they were on the same circuit a higher connection rate could be achieved.
The adapter is small and fits between the bottom of the TV and the stand it sits on, very neat indeed.
