Comparison to the 4GB Model
operating system:Windows 7I purchased both this model and the 4GB model a few days ago and instantly installed Windows 7 on them as I'm not much of a Linux person.
Straight off the bat i can tell you that the extra RAM in the 4GB model helps quite a bit in terms of multitasking. I also performed a quick benchmark of the hard drives and the 640GB drive in the 4GB model was a fair bit faster.
That being said, both of them work brilliantly and you're definitely getting a run for your money if you decide to buy one! Works flawlessly when running movies in 1080p, I've yet to experience any lag in that department yet during playback in Windows Media Player with a few codecs installed.
Youtube also seems to work ok, however most of the video's i have watched have been in a maximum of 720p, however the 2 video's i tried in 1080p seemed to run OK.
Netflix however is unable to run in HD on this device however due to compatibility issues with Netflix's video stream format and silverlite. Because of this compatibility issue it seems that silverlite is not able to make use of the video hardware acceleration when watching HD content on Netflix, and therefore is completely unplayable unless watching in SD where the CPU still runs at around 60 - 80%. (Apparently there may be an update soon to resolve this issue)
Besides that little issue, which is completely unrelated to the device itself and is purely a software issue, the Revo RL70 is a fantastic piece of kit and I highly recommend it.
My 4GB model is currently acting as a file server as well as being a Media PC and streaming server, where my 2GB model is being used as a standard desktop for general use. On the 2GB model I've installed Office 2007 & Adobe CS3, both of which I have had no problems with thus far. :)
P.S. The item description was initially a 640GB HDD, however i received mine with a 320GB HDD and informed Ebuyer immediately. Since then it has been corrected. Either way, still a bargain.
