Overview

Product Description

To make drive selection simple, we've gathered all our popular 5400 RPM WD Scorpio drives under one umbrella we call WD Scorpio Blue. Built to Western Digital's awarding winning quality standards, these drives are available in a full range of performance features.
  • Huge capacity - Whether they are in an external drive or a notebook computer, WD Scorpio Blue ATA100 drives are available in capacities up to 320 GB and offer the most available capacity for space-hungry operating systems, like Windows Vista®, with plenty of room left over for photos, music, and video.
  • Fast and efficient - With 5400 RPM spin speed and 12 ms access time even the most demanding customer will appreciate the performance achieved by WD Scorpio Blue drives.
  • Quiet - In a notebook drive, silence is golden. WD's exclusive WhisperDrive combines state-of-the-art seeking algorithms to yield one of the quietest 2.5-inch hard drives on the market. These algorithms also optimize the way a drive seeks for data, which significantly improves power consumption. So now silence (and longer battery life) is golden.
  • Reliable and rugged - WD's ShockGuard technology protects the drive mechanics and platter surfaces from shocks. WD's SecurePark parks the recording heads off the disk surface during spin up, spin down, and when the drive is off. This ensures the recording head never touches the disk surface resulting in improved long-term reliability due to less head wear, and improved non-operational shock tolerance.
  • Tested for compatibility - We perform tests on hundreds of systems and a multitude of platforms in our FIT Lab and Mobile Compatibility Lab to give our customers confidence that our drives will work in their systems.
  • Ideal for Portable digital devices of all kinds, including notebook computers, external storage, and digital media players.

Perfect for Aluminium PowerBook G4
review by:Anonymous rating:
customer rating
operating system:Mac OSX

Bought it for my PB G4 as a replacement for 80GB Toshiba IDE hard drive.
First of all, a word of praise for eBuyer stuff who proved very efficient in processing my order.
A word of warning - if you intend on putting it in yourself - it can be a bit tricky. Luckily, there is a full set of instructions with photographs on iFixIt. Once replaced, I had to partition it with Disk Utility and away I went, installing Tiger. Working absolutely great, much better than Toshiba - faster and quieter at the same time.
Overall am very pleased with my purchase. Price is very competitive too - I paid bp77 in January, still the lowest I could find.

Best Hard drive maker to date!

The amount of time I have used western digital drives going on 8 years now, they have never let me down once I still have the Caviar 40GB the drive is around 8 years old and been in 2 diffrent PC's and still going strong in my old Mesh AMD machine that I have since given to my younger brother, Western Digital drives are the most reliable brand to date, I would recommend 250/500GB models for IDE or otherwise for SATA I would recommend Western Digital Raptor drives.

Great hard-drive with a great price, hav'nt seen one this big at this price, would recomend, runs alot better than the toshiba 80GB one Used to have. Makes my Intel Celeron M Proscssor run like an intel core duo (when i put in the ebuyers own 1gb ram). Is a little fidily to install but fits in the end, (I put it in an acer Aspire 3669).
What an incredible buy!

Works fine in a 15" Powerbook!
review by:Ryan Hunt rating:

operating system:Mac OSX

I bought this drive to install into my 15" 1.5Ghz Powerbook to give it a little bit more life.

I can confirm that it works perfectly, and is very quiet. I found a install guide on ifixit.com

I also bought this caddy -> http://www.ebuyer.com/product/118506 to put my old powerbook hard drive in. Just so everyone knows, this drive draws a little bit too much power to be powered by Firewire/USB Alone in this enclosure. Needs the power also (cable supplied). Tested with the built in hard drive, and this wonderful WD 250gb jobby.

As always prompt delivery service from ebuyer.

Excelent drive for Dell Inspiron 2200
review by:Dave Wheildon, Birmingham, UK rating:

operating system:Windows XP

Excellent service and quick delivery as always.
Bought this drive to replace the 40GB drive in my Dell Inspiron 2200.
As with the other review, my Dell Inspiron 2200 Bios would only recognise the hard drives upto 137gb.

Not a problem just ignore it,boot from the Dell XP-Recovery CD which installed XP and then the full capacity was recognised.

The only problem is now theres so much space on C-Drive IT ECHOES !!

Very Good Drive, so get one for your Dell Inspiron NOW .

Harddrive upgrade
review by:Paul Brodie rating:
customer rating
operating system:Windows XP

I bought this to upgrade my Dell Inspiron 60Gb drive to get more space and wanted to replace the drive on a like for like basis, keeping all of the programs and not having to reload them all. I'm not a techy and this worked, so I hope that this description will help someone doing the same. You need to buy a USB to IDE adaptor as well to enable you to clone the drive. I got the Plexus one, ref number 130517. You can download Data lifeguard software from the Western Digital website to copy the drive. I tried this and it copied ok, but some of the programs, particularly the microsoft ones would not run. I did a system restore to get rid of the WD software and downloaded a copy of Acronis True Image Home (free for 15 day trial). Using the clone feature and selecting automatic mode it was very easy. Basically, you plug the new drive into a USB port via the adaptor, and clone the existing drive to it. I have put the new drive in and everything seems to work fine. The old drive was a Hitachi 7200RPM. The WD drive is a 5400RPM but files are opening much much quicker. Must be to do with the 8Mb cache. Overall then 10 out of 10. Usual fast delivery from Ebuyer.

Ease of Use & Capacity
review by:Anonoperating system:Windows XP

This drive was bought with a view to data migration from 40GB and to give capacity for future MPEG4 CCTV recordings owing to vandal problems. First job was to fit it in a caddy. The caddy disc is unfortunately not Partition Magic et al but just drivers for Win 98SE (not needed for XP SP2) The drive does not actually appear as a drive but appears as "USB mass storage device". 235GB is shown in "properties". Probably enough capacity to hold biometric ID card details for an entire country! Small enough to fit in a pocket, absolutely amazing!

Excellent, solid, fast hard drive!

operating system:Windows XP

Bought this drive to replace the 120GB Hitachi that I had to replace the original drive in my X31 Thinkpad. This drive is far better. It is significantly faster and 250GB of space on a laptop is invaluable. I have used Western Digitals since I first had a 1.2GB Western Digital Caviar drive back in 1996. Its still going! Western Digital drives are very reliable and will last for years. I currently have a WD 500GB and thats an amazing drive too.

Get one!

Amazing, after I could get it to work in my Inspiron
review by:Anonymous rating:

operating system:Windows XP

Excellent service from ebuyer as always. I had a small issue as my Dell Inspiron is too old to recognise hard drives larger than 137gb. Solution - downloaded Data Lifeguard Tools from the Western Digital website, booted the CD from DOS and partitioned using the tools, then installed XP and, once it had updated to SP2, the full capacity was recognised. Very happy.
