Perfect

There are two differences between this and the other LG Blu-Ray drive available at ebuyer right now. The other drive supports HD-DVD discs, this one doesn't, but as HD-DVD is a dead format and not supported anymore that is no big deal unless you already had a collection of HD-DVDs that you wish to watch.

The other difference is that this drive has higher read speed for Blu-Ray discs - 8x compared to the other's 6x.

I would really recommend this drive if you're in the market for a Blu-Ray drive. Installation was painless, it comes with everything. The only problem I had was down to the limited space I have due to the large graphics card blocking some SATA ports but that is of no fault to this drive.

The included software is PowerDVD. There are a bunch of other programs which you can choose to install (relating to burning, designing discs, etc) but I only went with the playback software. I have read about the many problems people have had with the software of the other drive available, but no problems here. Installed fine, update was recognised immediately, downloaded it and installed. Put in The Dark Knight and was blown away.

It also includes a firmware updater for the drive, I believe mine auto-updated as soon as the program was loaded as no update was available when I checked (unless the drive really is up-to-date).

Keep in mind with all the programs there comes a lot that run at startup, so you may want to disable all of them by going into msconfig. You can just run the firmware updater manually whenever you need it.

In summary, a very good drive. It's quiet and feels well built. If you're in the market for a Blu-Ray drive, don't look elsewhere.

A fantastic Blu-Ray drive!

Superb drive, extremely quiet, comes with loads of software and manuals, SATA data cable and MOLEX - SATA power adapter. Bundled PowerDVD software works well, updated easily. A flawless install, and the drive looks great when installed thanks to a classy gloss black bezel protected by peelable film. Forget HDDVD - even Toshiba have - BluRay is where it's at and this drive rates amongst the best.

Great but needed to change BIOS
review by: Chris Tolmie operating system: Windows 7

This worked great on my XP PC. However, it locked up my identical Windows 7 system whenever a CD or DVD was inserted. Turned out that I needed to change the BIOS setting from IDE to AHCI. I am running an AMD processor on an nForce5 chipset with three SATA devices. Took me sometime to work out this particular problem!

Works fine on windows 7 64bit. So far everything looks and sounds brilliant, this comes with several bits of software from cyberlink including: PowerDVD, Power2Go and PowerBackup (amongst others).

I think it comes with version 6 or 7 of powerdvd. Make sure you visit the cyberlink website and get the free upgrade to powerdvd 8 deluxe.

Other than that everything was fine and played flawlessly.

I am currently running Windows 7 Home 64-bit and installed this into my new Media Centre build along with the supplied software (PowerDVD) and was playing James Bond Casino Royale flawlessly.

This drive is perfect if you are only installing 1 CD/DVD/Blu-Ray Drive.

Great Blu-Ray Performance at Low Cost

I bought this as part of a HTPC build to run with Windows 7 x64. The drive was a breeze to install and I have had no problems since. I have had firmware updated from LG to improve the drive further, and have watched several Blu-Ray films without problems.

I am using PowerDVD 9 which I bought as an upgrade from the included 7, simply because I want to control the Blu-Ray player from Windows Media Centre. I have an AMD Phenom II X3 705E and ATi Radion HD3200 graphics with 5.1 surround (MSi MEdia Live Diva).

I shopped around everywhere to find a decent Blu-Ray drive and found one right here on ebuyer, where delivery is fantastic! The black bezel even matches the Antec case well.

The package includes a SATA cable and an adapter to go between a molex plug and a SATA power connector.

Blu-Ray Playback issues
review by: Cristian Ward operating system: Windows Vista

Installed this today, with the supplied Cyberlink PowerDVD BD Ed. software.

Install went fine, and the drive plays CD/DVD perfectly.

However playing a BD movie (Final Fantasy Advent Children) through PowerDVD presented issues. The movie would play perfectly well for about 5-10 minutes, then the software would crash, stating error code 0132. Re-starting the movie aain from where it crashed continues fine again for another 5-10 mins then playback stops again.

Anyone else having similar problems or have a solution?

System:

Pentium Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4ghz

3gb ram

Vista Home Premium 32-bit

WD Caviar 1tb HDD

ATI Radeon HD3850 PCIe 512mb

All gpu and windows drivers and updates installed to current.

Thanks
