Product Description
The Deskstar 7K2000 hard drive delivers a colossal two terabytes of storage capacity and 7200 RPM performance in a standard 3.5-inch form factor.Now in its fourth-generation, the 7K2000 is based on a robust mechanical design that continues to set the industry standard for quality and reliability. Through a patented ramp load/unload design, data heads are moved to a ramp away from the disk where they rest during periods of inactivity. This greatly minimizes the risk of shock damage by eliminating direct contact between the heads and disks, reducing wear and heat while improving overall drive reliability and power efficiency.
The Deskstar 7K2000 also incorporates Thermal Fly-Height Control (TFC) technology which uses an integrated heating element to precisely maintain a constant fly-height throughout read and write operations to enhance overall data integrity, drive performance and reliability.

Super Fast

Windows 7I have amazed by this 2TB disk. Compared to other 4 1TB disks which I had 3 from WD and 1 from SG, this one has far better performance, low temperature and very good noise controlling. Much satisfied now.

How much space have yoou got after formatting ?
Louder than some, but quick. Great value for money.

Windows XPThe head seek noise is significantly louder than Samsung F1 1TB drives, its probably something to do with the extra platter and consequently having a few more heads in the Hitachi drive to shift around.
1.81TB is available after NTFS formatting of a single partition.
It appears to be quite fast, but I've not made any accurate measurements of throughput.
Its superb value for money.
Super price
Just to stop any confusion. These drives are not G4 24x7 drives as an earlier post suggested. If you search for the manufacturers part number on their website you will come across the following PDF which says that they are Deskstar disks (as it also says in the title on eBuyer).
So that is not the 24x7 drives. However that aside they are still fantastic price and I just ordered 4 of them!

1st day
operating system:
Windows 71st day, copied 683GB of data over. Drive quiet, quieter than existing WD Caviar Black 1TB drive. Drive was hand hot [in other words you could keep hand on it without burning !] during this long continuous data copy. There was no cement mixer type noise, just low level click every few seconds. This is going into a Media Centre PC and according to Hitachi this drive is G4 and 24x7; time will tell!
The access time is noticeably faster even though this drive doesn't sport NCQ.
Considering how cheap this drive is compared to current competitor's that have typical 5900rpm (this drive is 7200rpm) it is looking good so far !!!
Warranty
Are these just a 12 month warranty being that they are not retail packed.
