Beware V1 and V2 are different
review by: Anonymous os: Windows XP

I have 3 of these all working fine on Windows XP-SP2 and W2KSP4. Warning: earlier versions are a different chip set and use different drivers; these are the V1's whose little green lights stay on permanenetly. The V2's (labelled sometimes as V2000) have green lights which flash only when they are active. The units (cases) are identical, but you CANNOT mix the software. YOU MUST install software drivers from CD before you plug the adapter in;;; ignore this and you'll have problems. Have been using these for over a year with Belkin F5D7633UK4A on firmare 009 without any problems ... very solid.

This is a great little piece and it now works with SP2 once you have selected the correct option after installing the Cd and plugging in the device. Great!

Effortless

I also bought from argos (cost about £1 more than ebuyer but easier to return if problems). Thanks to other reviewer who said the same!!

Followed instructions which insist on installing software first. Had problems - every time rebooted got found new hardware prompt.

Uninstalled then plugged in adaptor, let XP search the install CD for drivers and all is fine.

Tried it on an old 98SE laptop but not yet had success - will update if I get it working.

Was going to get a PCI card for about the same price - this is much better. Desk stand is a usb extension which I guess will work for other devices - handy if your usb ports are on the back of your pc.

EBUYER NEED TO REDUCE THEIR PRICE TO less than £24.99
review by: Brian Englishrating:

Ebuyer, surprisingly weren't as competitive on price for this kit. Usefully, it comes with a stand and extension lead so that the aerial in the dongle can be positioned optimally. This worked a treat!

It works great. I bought it from Argos this morning as I wanted to install one this weekend, and it was only £24.99 with no delivery to pay for.

I had the option of their 16 day money back guarantee (I was connecting this to an old PC which I'd previously had problems connectign the USB Bus to.)

The dongle and Belkin utility work fine with SP2. The kit installs easily, but if you install the Belkin software, XP's software for managing and connecting wireless networks is disabled.

There are a lot of options on the Belkin utility, but if you read the manual it should make sense.

It connects to older USB connections OK, you don't need USB 2.0, but obviously USB 2 would be quicker.

? better than the Belkin PCI card
review by: robert battersby os: Windows XP

This is a good product, bought elsewhere and not as cheap as this. Works well with W98 and XP. I've used it with a Belkin WAP and it appears to be just as good if not better than their PCI Wireless card. Mine had a USB extension cable and stand supplied making siting it for best reception easy and obviously more flexible than the fixed card antenna.

It Works Without Problem With SP2

I thought I would write a quick review to answer some comments/questions that people had about this product....

1. "BROUGHT 2 OF THESE AND NEITHER WORK WITH SERVICE PACK 2 FOR WINDOWS XP. NO DRIVER ARE READY FROM BELKIN TO GET THIS WORKING WITH SP2. CAUSES PC TO CRASH AS SOON AS PLUGGED IN"

AnSwEr

I have used this device on two seperate PCs running Windows XP Professional SP2 and it has worked without error and was simple to install. Took less than 5 minutes and I was connected.
Bought 2 of these, and niether work with service pack 2 for windows xp. No drivers are ready from belkin to get this working with sp2. Causes pc to crash as soon as plugged in! Tried on laptop with service pack 1 and they work fine, not much use when rest of network is SP2!!!

2."DOES THE EBUYER SUPPLIED UNIT COME WITH THE USB EXTENSION CABLE AND STAND AS MENTIONED ABOVE"

AnSwEr

Yes it does... which just adds to the fact that this prodcut is great value.. I have my second on order now.

Excellent Product Top Marks
review by: Russell Williams os: Windows XP

A while ago I purchased the Dlink DWL-G122, to go with the DLink G604T wireless router, for months a put up with a poor connection, however the DWL-G122 finally packed in, so I snapped this one up from argos at 19.99. Its the best piece of kit have purchased in the past 12 months as it gives me an 80% connection strenth, compared to the DWL-G122 which was about 30%. Dont settle for poor hardware thinking its the best you can get, BUY THIS ONE.

Not Sure ?

This seems a little devil to set up it just would not find any connection useing the Belkin software.

Let windows xp find it and it found a connection.

Taking it out of the office into the street after over 1 hour it found nothing but a D-link and a cheap ebuyer both did.

Getting the Belkin software off your computer not an easy thing to do.

Uninstall leaves a lot behind which if you are going to try and reinstall you need off.

Start>run>regedit>edit>new>find>BELKIN

Some will not delete so right click permissions allow then delete.

If you are going to install the software again or new updates run directly from the belking website do not download.

Given it five because once it has a connection it works but it would of got 1 because of the setup and software.
