Very impressed
operating system:Windows 7Brought this card and installed it a few days ago, nothing short of amazing for the price, the heat sinc is a little large but it fits into my PCI-E slot no worries and is quiet... so very quiet!
runs BF3 at around 40 - 50 FPS on max everything :)
Ultra Profile, great! but...
operating system:Windows 7... the heatsink! It sits quite proud of the card profile (as seen in one of the pictures) and caused an issue with fitment into a HTPC Antec Micro Fusion case (QF: 140998).
We have two Pinnacle 4000i Dual-Satellite cards in there too and this card was to pull the [display] load away from the cpu(s), using the Nvidia Cuda technology.
The fan/heatsink on this GT 430 was simply too thick to get in there safely, without it shorting out the 4000i it was going to touch. Airflow would also have been a problem.
We removed the heatsink and milled off about 6mm of the base so now it sits flush with the bracket being a lot less in thickness. There is still a problem with the airflow as it's still only about 1-2mm away from the 4000i.
The GT 430 is a phenomenally powerful card and does exactly what it's supposed to, especially when running 1080p .MKV's via CUDA. One of the other reasons for the upgrade to this is because this card...
.... is 3D ready! (HDMI 1.4)
We're looking into other ways of cooling this understated card as it's now slightly noisy, but that's the air being 'squeezed' through a 2mm gap and not through noise from the fan itself.
So, for what you get, it's an amazing bit of kit (especially for the 3D capabilities), but be warned about the profile thickness; you may not have the facilities to mill/shave 6mm off the bottom of the heatsink.
It should be noted that the board being used in the HTPC is the ASUS M4A785TD-M EVO (QF: 170277), so it's a 'standard' [PC] system board and this GT 430 will cause problems in many systems, whereby a card allocates a slot next to the PCI-E.
Consider this a SERIOUS contender if space is not of a premium in your system.
