Excellent, solid, quiet power supply
review by: chris russon rating:

operating system: Windows XP

I was surprised at how quiet this was. Ive been used to noisier cheaper PSUs, and had stopped beleiving that they came as quiet as they often advertised, but this is genuinely very quiet, and not very expensive either.

its heavy and solid, ive heard good weight is a sign of a good PSU. much heavier than the usual 30 quid PSUs id been used to

the connections are absolutely great. there are 6 sata connections, 2 cables with 3 connectors on each. 6 molex (the older type) connectors on 2 cables, with a floppy drive power connector on each, so 2 of those. the other connectors are also solid and well-made, with the 20/24 pin power connector, 4/8 other power connector, and a PCI connector (not sure what this is for, might be a high-power graphics card?)

the cables are so solid and well-made, they look great with a thick black mesh round each one that keeps them very tidy, and looks pretty cool.

my system looks like its got the insides of some kind of alien spaceship now.

i dont know much about the power ratings, but 400w is running my system very well, its a mid-range system (see below)

ive heard that its more the amps which matter now anyway, altho im not sure.

i also dont know anything about running tests on it, maybe someone could do that and put some info in here. it certainly seems stable on my system (but all of my cheaper ones did too, so i dont know what im looking at)

if 400w will run your system (i think this will cover most if not all mid-range systems) i would really suggest getting it. price, quietness, usability, all really great, its pretty incredible at this price and very worth it. way ahead of any PSU ive bought before (usually pay 20-30 pounds)

you get some cable ties and a power cord with plug included.

here is the system its running -

Gigabyte GA K8NE motherboard

AMD Athlon 3400 (2.4 GHz) processor

1 GB RAM (DDR1)

4x SATA Hard Drives -

1x WD Raptor 75GB

1x Samsung 1TB Spinpoint (awesome hard drive, by the way, quickfind: 143288)

Just what is needed for a mid-range PC
review by: Anonymous rating:

I bought this this Corsair 400W PSU for my wife's PC. She is not a gamer but her PC runs almost 24/7 and we needed something reliable, efficient and quiet at the same time.

The PSU is really quiet and cannot be heard - the biggest contributors to the overall noise are the Intel stock CPU cooler and the case fan.

This PSU is quite heavy as well which is usually a sign of a good unit.

Hits the spot

Good quality, only contender I could see was the 400W model from OCZ. But then coupled with a P5Q board, the OCZ did not have the necessary power connectors. Very pleased.

Bought this unit based on the other reviews and wasn't disappointed. Cheapest 400W I could find at the time and is lovely and quiet, comes with tie-wraps and a sticker to put on your case (always a bonus!) Build is sturdy and connectors fit nice and tight.

Bargain
review by: Anonymous operating system: Windows Vista

Can't really fault this unit for the money. It Feels solidly built and weighs a fair bit too. I guess what your getting here is piece of mind at a great price from a quality manafacturer.

Only slight downside I found was the cables are pretty hard to bend/flex as they are sheathed. Probably not a problem for most, but I was installing into an matx case, so it was a little hard to navigate..
