The USB-SI-C is a fully featured external mass storage converter kit which allows direct USB connection to both popular IDE and SATA interface connectors used on Hard Disks, DVD/CDs and other mass storage devices - all with the convenience of total Plug n Play. Perfect for both end users and IT administrators, the USB-SI-C allows easy archiving, disk imaging or operating system upgrade at a fraction of the cost when compared with dedicated backup systems and allows a user to use there existing mass storage devices without the need for further investment when upgrading systems.
Works to mount IDE, SATA drives as USB drives for backup, copying, cloning. Power pack takes "kettle lead" and the one provided can be swapped for a longer version
Adaptor provided for SATA power is not a good fit on PSU output lead - both too tight on pins and feels insecure. IDE connector can be misaligned on drive and so not engage with right pins. Need to plug into computer and power up drive in right sequence to get computer to recognise drive. (XP and Windows 7) Seems to run at USB rather than USB 2 even when USB 2 ports used. Short power lead provided for PSU.
This really is plug and play - I've only used it on SATA drives, but I imagine that it will be just as easy on IDE too. To coin that phrase "it does exactly what it says on the tin!" Very good product for quickly checking what's on your drives/backing up.
I am occasionally getting "this device can perform faster" messages on the drive connected to the adapter. I'm not sure if this is an issue with my computer or the adapter. It still all works ok, but this would imply that it is occasionally running at USB 1.0 as opposed to 2.0.
