Great product....
operating system:LinuxWell, for a home switch as I assume it's intended, you couldn't ask for much more, except perhaps an integrated mains power supply.
I doubt that I could generate enough traffic to do this switch justice, but in a fit of generosity I once loaned it to my old school to substitute for their core gigabit switch while they had their (much more expensive) unit replaced... It didn't even struggle with over 400 machines all in continuous use throughout the day!
BTW, why do the ebuyer specifications insist on listing "OS requirements" for an unmanaged switch... next thing we'll be having Windows only mains leads!
Jumbo packets!
operating system:Not ApplicableI got one of these two months ago. The picture is a little misleading as it makes it look like it is much wider than it is. Anyway, so far I can't fault it. I can copy hundreds of gigabytes of data around the house at 70% utilisation with so far 100% reliability. I've got a 10/100 hub chained off it with my internet router off that, and several PCs with the ones which didn't already have gig ethernet running the cheapo Dynamode gig ethernet adapter. I bought a load of the ebuyer flat cat6 cables which simplified the cable routing.
This switch supports jumbo packets, which not all gigabit switches do (I would have bought the Allied Telesyn one but for lack of this). It also claims to be full duplex and full bandwidth so in theory all 8 ports could have 1 gigabit in and out at the same time - not that you'll achieve that in practice. It is packaged in a robust confidence inspiring metal case with an external power supply, and runs silently.
Not everyone has a need to be able to move data between PCs at a gigabyte/minute, but if you do, this box is a good thing to have.
Great switch
operating system:Not ApplicableI had used the prior version of this switch for the last 8 years. This was a Netgear 10/100 device and looks nearly identical. I have now used this new 10/100/1000 device for the past month as a replacement and it is just as great - Rock solid 7x24 support with no restarts required anytime. The uplink port is good for sharing a single network connection (eg. from a distant adsl router) with up to 7 other machines at the end of a network cable. Very reliable kit.

operating system:Not ApplicableExcellent piece of kit. I have specified and used Netgear products for years and never had a problem. This is great value for a top-spec Gigabit switch. The unit supplied is actually physically smaller than specified by Ebuyer although it is definitely a GS108. The unit we got is 158 x 101 x 27 mm; really compact!
