Brilliant little device

Windows XPI bought this device a few days ago, and while an external hard drive may not be the most exciting, feature packed, or 'cool' product you can buy, when something just 'works' then that is when you get the most satisfaction from it. I received this item promptly and well packaged from ebuyer.
Obviously with products such as this, that only have a single purpose, you expect it to perform brilliantly. And it does. It comes with a plug that you can attach a 3 or 2 pin adaptor to (both included), and unlike some other products I've had, I was actually able to fit the plug (which houses the transformer too, so the cable is clear) right in the middle of a crowded multisocket.
Installation is a simple matter of connecting to mains power, and attaching the USB cable (which is rather short, but extensions are CHEAP if you really really need one). Once you've plugged it into the computer, it installs the drivers immediately and you're ready to go.
The drive comes pre-formatted to FAT32. For those who don't know, FAT32 is what is known as a 'file-system'. FAT32 was most commonly used until a few years ago before another file-system, NTFS, became popular (and better). If you are running Windows XP, Vista, or 7, you will want to run the installation software that comes preloaded on the drive. Doing this will also install the TurboUSB feature that can improve the rate at which data is transferred to the device.
It seems to be a commonly held belief (at least about this product) that you can only power off the drive by shutting down your computer.
This is not so!
When you plug in the drive (or any other usb drives) a small icon appears in your system tray (by the clock). It looks like a small grey box with a green arrow. If you hover over it, it will say 'safely remove hardware'. Left click on this and select your removable device.
If you have several options, the one you want is usually the one with only a single letter after it, especially if you have a card reader installed in your computer.
Doing this will have the same effect as turning off your computer. It will safely cut the USB connection with the hard drive, and the device will power itself off. You can then unplug, or replug it if you need to use it again.
In essence then, this external hard drive has more than enough storage for most peoples' requirements, it is easy to use and install, and doesn't look half bad either ;)

Windows XPOk so i didnt know if it needed a mains supply or not... YES IT DOES!!! A bit gutted for me as i was hoping it wouldnt. Its a round socket with a typical ac adaptor connector which is 12V 2A (info for the 12V crew!)
On the all plastic case it says "Made in China" No idea about the hard disk itself - no idea about what make etc and dont wanna take mine apart. The drive needed formatting TWICE dispite using the buffalo software to format it the first time, i would simply advise checking in windows if its being recognised as NTFS because mine was FAT32 EVEN after NTFS format. But the second time sorted that.
The transfer speeds are faster than expected and the drive is pretty quiet.
I wanted something USB powered and fairly fast and i got what i wanted only a shame about the power supply and the very plasticy feel (no rubber edges) but what a deal for the money... Cheers ebuyer delivery was in 2 days even on free del. Spot on.
Like a dream

Windows VistaHave used quite a few external hard drives including the previous version of the drivestation which in my opinion was one of the ugly drives on the block. This however is just as reliable with buffalo's 2 year warranty but a lot smarter looking and came pre-formatted so easy start up.

Windows XPEbuyer are fantastic, ordered and arrived in two days! Free delivery as well. It's very nice design, black and simple and elegant. It makes relatively little noise, plug and play. Software is included and helps you format the drive to ntfs which works better with windows. The option to enable turbo usb is also present. Has a hole for a security cable to attach to it, which can deter thieves if you're in an office environment which is vulnerable.
Fast, Quiet and Good Value

Windows XPThis drive is extremely simple to set up, simply plug and play out of the box. It is also fast and quiet, and while not as shiny as the more expensive external drives, it still represents excellent value for money.
In answer to the person claiming that the included software is trial only, this is incorrect; Memeo needs to have a serial number entered (this can be found on a sticker attached to the clear plastic bag which contains the quickstart guide). This will enable the full version.
Fantastic drive and power saver is god send

Windows XPI've had this drive about 2 weeks now and it is fantastic!! Firstly, it stands up, so stacking them side by side is easier. Secondly it turns off when the computer does, such a good feature. It is also fast and does what it's designed to do.
My advice is to format the drive to NTFS and not bother with any of the software. I personally rarely use bundles software as I find it clunky and this software is no exception. If you've got the money, get the 1TB. Or better still get 2!
Memeo software
The Memeo and other software is now on the drive and not on a separate CD as it used to be.
Works just great!

Windows XPI am not that clever with computers but this drive installed with no problems at all and in no time I was backing up my precious photos.
I can thoroughly recommend it
Oh and delivery was excellent too.
