Product Description

NETGEAR GS116 16-Port 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet Switch

Power Up Your Small Network to Gigabit Speeds
Now you can have a powerful, high-speed network on a small scale. NETGEAR's GS116 Gigabit Ethernet Switch lets you build a system that provides a full, dedicated 1000 Mbps connections so you can move very large files across your network instantly. The standards based NEGEAR GS116 helps to protect your existing and future network infrastructure investments by painlessly integrating other 10, 100, and 1000 Mbps devices. This potent switch is ideal for workgroups or quickly upgrading workstations to full Gigabit speed, plus it's packed with ease-of-use features to simplify your workday experience. It's compact design fits neatly into small work spaces and, since it's self-cooling without a fan, it runs silently and unobtrusively.

Power Packed
Moves huge files fast! Features 16 high-speed, auto-switching 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet connections. And because Copper Gigabit Ethernet is a full duplex standard, you can get up to 2000 Mbps on each port.

Versatile
Integrates 10, 100, and 1000 Mbps devices on the same network and will honor Layer 2 802.1p traffic priority tags. Every port automatically senses the right speed and full/half duplex mode, while Auto UplinkTM technology automatically adjusts for straight-through or crossover cables.

Accommodating
LEDs embedded in each of the 16 RJ-45 jacks make for easy monitoring. Space-saving dimensions are ideal for desktop or wall mounting in home, small office, workgroups, departments and conference room environments. Its durable metal case has no fan for silent operation. Compatible with either PC, Macintosh, Unix, or Linux operating systems.

Solid
Providing plug-&-play simplicity with exceptional performance and reliability, the NETGEAR GS116 is a cost effective solution for your growing network. This switch is made to last and NETGEAR backs it with a solid warranty: switch - 5 years, power supply - 2 years.

Review of Netgear 16 Port Switch (Model GS116)

I fully agree with the manufacturers review for this product. This is a nice compact unit that runs SILENTLY and does everything it says on the tin! The LEDs by each port are useful for checking that all is well with your network.

I've been using this now for 4 weeks and cannot fault it. I would highly recommend this product to anyone wanting up to 1gb speeds across your network.

Excellent bit of kit

We have two of these in the office now as well as the smaller version. Works perfectly, no problems yet. Fanless so totally quiet and has connection and data light on each port so you can easily see connectivity.

You wont find a better switch

good for the money

ideal for a small office as it's compact, quiet - fanless, and works well. It won't be the highest performer, but most people don't need to spend 1000's on a high-end Cisco!

Spews RF Interference - Earth the chassis!
review by: Ed W rating:

operating system: Not Applicable

I have two of these and whilst the networking performance is superb, they interfere massively with my ADSL broadband.

Simply putting this switch within about 1 foot of the router causes the sync speed to drop from 9.5Mbit to 4Mbit. However, earthing the chassis (it has an earth tab on the side) brings my ADSL sync back up to 8Mbit (ish). (turning it off gets me back to 9.5mbit)

I have swapped both switches around and the RFI problem persists with both, so I think it's endemic to putting a gigahertz radio into an unscreened box... Connecting the chassis to the mains earth mostly fixes things, but not completely.

In comparison I have an extremely cheap early model gigabit switch which I just tried and no problems with the ADSL at all. So this isn't a problem endemic to gigabit switches...

That aside I think they are excellent units and would recommend them. However, beware the ADSL interference...
