Good little hub but
operating system:Windows XPIt doesn't mention anywhere until you actually get it, but you will need a CROSSOVER cable to be able to use in conjunction with another hub/switch on a network.
It would have been useful to mention this in the specs on ebuyer.
Lovely bit of kit low power usage and fast
operating system:Windows VistaBought one of these to try and play around with my network.
Basically it does what it says on the tin.. plug your network cable that goes to your router into port number 5 and then everything else into the other ports. Plug in the power. BINGO.. you have your network up and running.
I have One PC, One Nas and One network printer all plugged in and all work perfectly.
This is a 100mbps switch, but I am getting around 10MegaBytes per second transfer speed to my NAS from the PC though the switch. I am led to believe (from what I have read and been told) that the NAS would expect to have around 8MegaByte per second MAX on a 100mbps network. This show that this unit must be running a very fast speed in real world! Well Happy
Power consumption of the plug-in power supply is only 3-4 watts accoring to my plug in meter so quite efficent.
PLEASE NOTE: whilst this is a 5 port switch you can only really have 4 devices connected to it (5 including router). Still 5 ports but one is used by internet router. Also the power lead is only around 1.5 meter long.
Unit has really smallfoot print and looks quite designer in a way. Easy to tuck out of the way. Bargain
Works perfectly
operating system:Not ApplicableCan't fault these. I paid ten pounds each for the two of mine, and now they are even cheaper. I used these to wire up my house.
They work, and speeds seem good - what you would expect from 100mbit, which is around 10MB/Sec. Internet over this is nippy - far superior to the wireless (since pings between the PC and router are lower over wires). Games pings are just as good as being wired into the router directly.
theres a bit of confusion going on with what kind of cables you need - in my experience, I linked a BTHomeHub2 (the black curvy one) to one of these, then linked that to the second one of these, then linked that to a netgear gigabit switch - all using PATCH cables. Everything works perfectly. My house has 4 floors, so multiple switches were the easiest option.
As far as I understand, as long as both devices support MDI/MDIX, you can use crossover or patch cables to connect them - they auto-correct it internally. All of the above devices support this. Traditionally (before this MDI/MDIX feature) you had to use crossover cables to connect switches to routers/hubs.
Decent and Cheap
operating system:Not ApplicableDoes exactly what it says on the box and it didnt need a crossover cable. It has autodetect so the switch can cross over the connection if needed. Also very low power consumption.
However It doesnt look anything like the picture on the site. The switch I got wasnt branded plexus it was unbranded. Take a look at link below.
