Great, but confusion to clear up.
operating system:Windows 7It could have just been me, but I found the instructions very vague, and if you're new at putting on an aftermarket HSF and a bit worried about it, read this so you don't do what I almost did and gave up, thinking I had wasted £17. Easier to follow instructions as per me!
Firstly, ground yourself of course, remove the stock AMD HSF by pushing the lever back and unlatching from the notches, carefully. If the thermal paste is sticking, gently rotate until it comes free. use some isopropyl alcohol (though I used NAIL VARNISH REMOVER, which worked fine) and fine cloth or cotton buds to gently remove the paste (dab on, dont pour) and take the arctic cooler out the box, the instructions would have you believe you attatch the retaining brackets first but what I had to do (gigabyte board) was lightly screw the brackets onto the heatsink unit first then gently, but precisely lower the unit onto the first notch, and then unscrew it as much as you need on both sides to put the second bracket on the other notch, then slowly tighten each screw until they won't rotate anymore without excessive force, then simply reattatch the fan part as the manual shows.
Another thing to note, is if your RAM is in the left side of the 4 slots, it will likely need to be moved to the other two slots further to the right to facilitate the unit, as it's a fair bit bigger than your standard AMD one. I booted the PC up after this, thankfully breaking nothing and was surprised to see my speedfan tell me I was at 28-32 degrees idle, and I haven't seen it above 52 under full load! (playing LFD2 on max settings), this contrasts with the awful stock HSF causing my CPU to reach 90 degrees and autoshutdown in this very hot room. Fantastic purchase!
Note: take my installation advice with a pinch of salt, first time doing it myself but it has worked for me!
Excellent Cooler
operating system:Windows 7Using this on an i3 530 and for £16 this is brilliant, it's quiet, will fit in most cases and doesn't look too bad either.
Temps on stock i3 530
28 - 34 idle
50 - 54 100% load
Didn't have any problems fitting, took about 10 mins in total, I found the fan doesn't reach the full 2500 rpm as stated (gets to about 2200) but I found this a good thing as it cools perfectly well and starts to get a bit noisy at the faster fan speeds.
Doesn't compare to the prolimatech megahalems I have in my main PC but for the price I would buy this cooler again and again.
Awsome
operating system:Windows 7This is the best value cpu cooler I have ever had. The price of this thing is great and it does a great job of cooling my athlon II x4 620 which is overclocked to 3.6ghz It keeps the temps between 41c and 44c under full load which is fantastic. It looks very nice too and is quick and easy to install. I will say that when they say the fan is silent they where not kidding this thing realy is nice and even better for all you guys who like a quiet pc. Anyone thinking of buying the freezer xtreeme I would buy this instead as it takes up much less room and I noticed a 1c to 2c diffrence in them which is not bad and even better if you are on a budget.
Awesome results!!!!!!
operating system:Windows Vistai have an AMD 9850x4 @ 2.5GHz and it was running a little hot.
Idle - 40c-45c
LOAD - up to 79c (in cod4)
Fitted this beast and
idle - 29c-34c
LOAD - 54c (never been above 54C yet!)
amazing results.
Buy one.
I have also heard on my CPU, if i overclock from 2.5GHz to 3GHz it will raise overall temps by about 3C-7C. WOW just WOW
