Excellent Keyboard
operating system:Windows 7I've had this Keyboard since Christmas 2011. I was looking for a wireless keyboard due to there being far too many cables on my desk.
The cables made my desk look untidy. I had previously tried wireless keyboard's about 3-4 years back and found that the technology wasn't quite there yet for what I wanted. I figured that the tech must have moved in 4 years to something worth using. I'm happy to report that I was right.
I did a fair amount of research in to wireless keyboards, stumbling across this one. From what I read this was by far the best value for money and by the looks of it the best performing wireless keyboard I could find.
The keyboard layout reminds me of a Mac's keyboard (I love their keyboard layouts) and the key action feels excellent.
I've seen a few people say they have been using this keyboard in a very dark office for hours and hours, having it barely go below 100% ... in my experience this is nonsense. I've used it in an office as my main keyboard, I've also used this in a computer room (curtains closed due to annoying glare from the sun *shakes fist at sun*) It WILL drop below 100% and lower if you don't let it get a decent source of light to charge.
You could easily use this keyboard for 8hours a day for about a week or 2 without a decent source of light. Charging the keyboard is really easy though. I had it drop to about 70%, sunny day, so I left the keyboard on and put it on my windowsill to charge. I went out to do a few errands (3-4 hours) and it was fully charged when I got back.
The keyboard is a dream to type on, being a touch typist and a programmer you need a nice feeling keyboard otherwise you quickly become aware of how annoying it is to type.
I rambled a bit, but I thought I would try to answer some of the main worries I had when looking at this keyboard.
Simply put, this is an outstanding keyboard, probably the best I have used, but it is a bit of a dust magnet.... easy to clean though, turn off and wipe with a duster, done.
Pro's
+ Excellent battery life, charges quickly
+ Nice response time on keys
+ Excellent type feeling and layout of keys
+ Easy to clean
+ Tiny USB, can barely notice it's even plugged in and decent range!
+ Really thin!! Decent build quality for the price.
+ Nice software at the push of a button to display battery charge and how much energy it is receiving through the solar panels.
Con's
- Feet on the back feel a little flimsy. I dare say they would easily break if you aren't careful.
- Attracts dust very quickly
Summary: If you are looking for a wireless keyboard, this is what you should buy.
Excellent Keyboard
operating system:Windows 7I have had the keyboard for around a week and half now so I though I would give an initial impression.
This keyboard is one of the most comfortable I have used. It is rather like typing on a laptop, but a lot more comfortable. The keys are nicely spaced out and have very good feedback. They have a distinctive click noise to each key press.
As far as the battery goes, I covered both the solar panels as I wanted to see how much the battery drains by. I left it like this for about 4 days and used they keyboard for about 3-4 hours of light use a day. The battery didn't go down even 1%. I discovered the reason for this was because one of the panels I had covered with a folded up piece of paper. Although ambient room lighting was not powerful enough to penetrate through this, natural light was. The solar panels are very sensitive.
As I've read elsewhere, the small tilt pegs on the back do seem as though they would break if you put too much pressure, but the keyboard still feels very sturdy even then up.
All in all, very good keyboard.
re.solar keyboard
operating system:Windows 7have had one of these keyboards for about five months or more and have not had no problems with it i work in the dark a lot as like monitor effect better and have not lost power from battery still 100% keys are nice do not have to push hard like some keyboards all in all very good buy but could be cheaper very pleased with keyboard hope lasts that way have ordered another one for computer in bedroom
My best keyboard ever
operating system:Windows 7I've had this keyboard for a year now and I enjoy it so much I thought it deserved a review!
I had a Logitech Illuminated Keyboard before (the corded one) which was brilliant but I always struggled with the cord when I needed space on my desk. The solar keyboard being cordless and so thin/light, I just move it around easily. I even used it with my Panasonic Smart TV.
My room/office is quite dark but I never had any issues. Even the light from my laptop screen recharges the battery! I like the little software which you can activate from the keyboard itself, it always tell you about the lighting conditions and the battery % left. I've rarely seen it below 100%. All in all, no sun needed, it's much better than a calculator in terms of the light needed and it works without light for months.
One last thing I really liked apart from the best design ever, is that it has the Logitech Unifying Receiver. So I just paired it to the same receiver as my Logitech mouse which is brilliant. And I also paired it to work laptop when I need to work from home.
+ No batteries ever needed
+ Great Design, very thin and light
+ Wireless
+ Comfortable to type on
+ Unifying receiver
- Key are not back-lit but I can live without that
I couldn't be more confident in recommending a keyboard.
Enjoy it!
