Great card but some reservations
os:
Windows VistaThis is a half height, low profile(2u)passively cooled card for the PCI slot.Dual link DVI on pcb and vga dsub(on flying lead)
Only full height (4u) i/o mount supplied (XFX do a low profile kit MA-BK01-LP1K which may fit, i have ordered one from SCAN).
The cooler heatsink is wide and covers the adjacent slot, the price to pay for quiet though.
Tested in a dual opteron/tyan 2u server with VISTA 32 in both pci and pci-x slots. No problems with bios detection.
Only the drivers on the supplied disk work with the card (NO CATALYST from ATI upto 8.2 work which is a shame ie ASIC not included in instal)
The drivers are unsigned for VISTA 32 and need to be manualy selected but worked fine once installed.
There is no HDCP; HDMI audio also looks to be missing but may just be the drivers.
Peformance is excellent in 3d, at least 300% improvement over ATI 7000 previosuly installed, even increasing AA/AF didn't cause the min FPS to drop to much. PQ was excellent.
One odditiy was that VISTA dreamscene when active didn't have any GPU hardware acceleration as one CPU hit 100%, this must be a driver bug.
DX10 is certainly present and made a vsiual difference in game but the performace hit is very high.
Overall I would give the card 8.5/9.0 out of ten, mainly because it has NO competition and performance is excellent.
The package could be better, the inclusion of a low profile mount and the heat sink being single slot would be priority.
Great PCI Graphics Card!
os:
Windows XPI had all but given up hope on a card like this being available for my small asus pudit-r barebone system which has no agp or pci express ports on board, only 2 pci slots.
Worked a treat as soon as I adjusted the bios to look for a PCI graphics card first instead of the onboard graphics.
Also, my card has a memory size of 512MB instead of the 256MB advertised above. It has a core clock speed of 525MHz & memory clock speed of 400MHz straight out of the box! RESULT!!!
Get one of these baby's if you are limited in the GFX port area like I was or even to get a bargain up to date graphics card which supports hdmi (you will need a dvi to hdmi adapter). Also according to the powercolor website this card supports directX 10.
Great graphics card ebuyer, well done!!!!!
good card for shooting games
os:
Windows XPk this card aint tht bad but it does hav some problems when playin some games when comparin this card sometimes an nvidia 5200 can beat it at games like rome total war and rise and fall civilisations at war all i can say is tht it is still the best i guess u can get on pci cos it can run the followin games decently:
battlefield 2: HIGH
counterstrike source : HIGH
portal : HIGH tho lags bit when there is too many things on the screen but overall runs vgoood
tombraider legend: high except antaliasing is turned off
age of empires 3: what can i say all settings were on very high tht was really cool :D
bioshock: im not bluffin bout this but actually i was so shocked bout this tht i couldnt beleive it :o it ran it on MEDIUM !!!!! and it didnot lag even one bit , even near the water!!!!
halflife 2: HIGH except when sometimes near the water but yeh it went all smooth mostly :D
positive points: it is a good card , can do hd , play dx 10 , and it actuallly a 512mb card instead of a 256mb which is a bonus, can play most shooting games on high or medium with decent fps. (except for crysis ppl lol). it runs 3d content decently.
downside: driver problems ..... :( sometimes u gotta reinstall it cos it doesnt giv enough efficeincy n dn wrk well :@, oh yeh for all those rts gamers this card is not very good at it ive tested games like total war series on it it kindas runs shit ie like medieval 2 total war n rome total war run on low n it still lags , n runs rise n fall jus too slo even on low which i think is a shame realli cos an nvidia 5200 had better performace than it :'(
.
one point 2 make tho it can run age of empires 3 on veryhigh detail with antialiasing off.
but for shooter this card is the best on pci i guess
jus 2 clear off arugements tht ppl cannot run on my spec ive listed ill tell u my comp spec which got me these details :
pentium 4 ht 3.00ghz
2048mb ram
and of course the 512 mb ati radeon HD2400 pro
i was gonns giv it a 4 but considerin the improvement and the price it would r8 it 5*
Information On This Graphics Car
First off I would like to say this graphics card.
IS PCI NOT PCI-E
It is NOT 512MB it is 256MB (System information programs may get this wrong EG:System requirements Lab)but I'm not a 100% on this one
DirectX10 (AKA Direct3D10 DX10) is ONLY on Vista.
In the month i have had this card I have tested a These games GTA SA, Crysis, Call Of Duty 1 and Half Life2 ep2
Here is some notes about how they played
Half life 2
*Perfect on very high quality
*notist some slowness near water but I think it is my copy of the game
GTA SA
I had to configure the card abit for this one but in the end I got it working on Very High
Crysis
I manged to get it running smooth in the end mostly LOW settings but when you get it running it was fine.
Call of duty
The oldest game here run perfect on very high everything
this is definitely a good buy if like me your motherboard didn't have PCI-E/AGP slot like mine :(.
Altogether A 8.5 / 10
Info on the rest of my PC
1GB DDR RAM (2x 512)
2.93 GHz Pentium 4
Not bad - but not great :)
os:
Windows XPPicked one of these up as I've got an Asus Pundit P1-AH2 and I'm stuck with PCI cards when it comes to video upgrades. Should have thought about gaming when I built it I guess!
Popped this in - and got mixed results. System is a AMD 64 X2 Dual Core 4200+, 2GB of Ram with XP Pro.
Age of Conan - which was a slide show on the Integrated P1-AH2 Geforce 6150, now runs well so long as you choose the low detail settings - until it tries to draw any effects, then it drops a fair few frames.
I tried World Of Warcraft next - and it's not so encouraging. Didn't see much improvement over the integrated hardware. Which I was surprised by.
Same story with Lord of the Rings Online, not much better than the integrated graphics.
One odd thing I've noted is the FMV for all the above games skip and jar. Maybe this is the PCI bus, but it's something I didn't expect, especially since the card is supposed to be very good for HD video playback. Of course this may be a driver fault.
Still for the price, can't complain. Just don't expect a huge leap in gaming performance!
Hope this helps!
Confused
It says PCI in the description and on Powercolor's website, but on various internet forums they state that it's only PCI-E compatible.Any idea chaps?
How does it compare with the PNY GeForce 620 256MB?
Cheers
how to connect to tv?
how do u connect this card to tv? what cable do u need? do u need to connect sound seperately?
