What is the RX 7600?

AMD's top-of-the-range Radeon RX 7000 Series graphics cards, like the RX 7900 XT and RX 7900 XTX, are seriously impressive - but affordable they are not. While these AMD graphics cards can run all the latest AAA titles at maxed-out settings without breaking a sweat, they cost the same as an entire mid-range gaming PC. With the Radeon RX 7000 Series launching right at the end of 2022, it's been a bit of a wait for a more affordable RDNA 3-powered graphics card. Now, it's finally here with the AMD Radeon RX 7600.

Like the rest of the Radeon RX 7000 Series, the AMD Radeon RX 7600 is built on AMD's ground-breaking RDNA 3 GPU architecture, lending the RX 7600 fantastic performance-per-watt and efficiency. Unlike other RDNA 3 graphics cards, the RX 7600 uses a more traditional 'monolithic' chip design, rather than a chiplet one.

RX 7600 vs RX 6600

Compared to last-gen's RX 6600, the new RX 7600 sees a bit of a spec-bump. It's equipped with 32 Compute Units and 32 Ray Accelerators, four more of each than the RX 6600. The RX 7600 also features 64 AI Accelerators, which the RX 6600 has none of.

As the name implies, Ray Accelerators speed up the card's real-time ray tracing performance. Importantly, the performance of RDNA 3's second-generation Ray Accelerators is vastly superior to AMD's first-generation attempt. So, you can expect ray-traced titles to run noticeably faster on the RX 7600. Check out our blog AMD Radeon RX 7000 Series GPUs - What You Need to Know for more information.

Both of these AMD graphics cards feature 8GB of GDDR6 video memory on a small 128-bit bus. However, the RX 7600's VRAM is clocked slightly higher at 18 Gbps, rather than 14 Gbps. When the RX 7600's 32MB of second-gen Infinity Cache is in play too, it gives the RX 7600 an effective memory bandwidth of up to 476.9 GB/s. What's more, AMD's reference design for the RX 7600 has it reach a boost clock of 2,625 MHz, in contrast to the RX 6600's 2,491 MHz boost clock.

RX 7600 Gaming Performance

When you combined this increased number of Compute Units and Ray Accelerators with RDNA 3's more advanced architecture and higher boost frequencies, the RX 7600 is on average 29% faster than the RX 6600, at least according to AMD's own gaming performance figures.

AMD is positioning the Radeon RX 7600 as an affordable, power-efficient graphics card for 1080p gaming. Take advantage of AMD's software technologies like FidelityFX Super Resolution 2 (FSR 2), however, and you'll be able to push performance even further in select titles.

You can think of FSR as AMD's equivalent to DLSS, expect it isn't accelerated by AI. With FSR 2, games are rendered at a lower internal resolution and reconstructed up to a higher output resolution. For instance, FSR 2 can produce a 4K-like image, even if it's rendering at just 1080p internally. This gives the Radeon RX 7600 a huge performance boost, while still maintaining decent image quality.

RX 7600 Power Consumption & Form-Factor

The AMD Radeon RX 7000 Series debuted with a couple of monstrously power-hungry graphics cards, consuming up to 355W. This, in turn, cranked up these cards' temperatures. Nearly every model of RX 7900 XT and RX 7900 XTX features a hefty triple-slot, triple-slot, and triple 8-pin design. With the RX 7600, power consumption has been lowered substantially. Rated at a TDP (effectively the card's power draw) of 165W, the RX 7600 can be powered by a single 8-pin connector. AMD recommend a 550W PSU to power an entire RX 7600-equipped gaming PC, which is nothing compared to some other gaming-grade graphics cards.
