Very 'ard case.
review by: BravoTEK rating:

operating system: Not Applicable

Almost feels like you can take anyone on with a case like this at a LAN party.

Very solid build quality.

Plenty of holes to aid with cable management so you can show off your well lit tidily arranged innards (PC) to your challengers.

Plenty of drive bays (12) to enable you to have loads of storage for all your games, videos, music and por... non-pirated media.

Setting up was fairly straightforward and logical, didn't really need to refer to the user manual to transplant my old internals to the new case.

Some niggles though, you may have cable management issues if you still have IDE devices.

You can't turn off the front and rear LED's; Only the top 200mm fan. So if you're watching a movie, the blue glow from the 5x 120mm fans may distract you.

Internals remain nicely ventilated in near-silence with all fan speed knobs set to minimum.

With all fans at maximum, expect a 5-10C average drop. However, the cost of the lower temperature is the sound of Darth Vader taking a rather long intake of breath.

I'd give it 4 and a half stars if possible because of the niggles, but 5 would do just fine.

There are cheaper alternatives out there such as the ones from Thermatake, but they can't match the build quality of the Antec's.

Antec Twelve Hundred

Recieved the case earlier today, brilliant service from Ebuyer, as always.

First impressions, looks amazing, even with the power off, plenty of space, makes an ATX look like a micro and more than enough room for a large GPU. Very easy to set up and marvelous cooling.

Pros;

Looks fantastic, the LED fans illuminate the case and componants but not overpowering, very ambiant. Love the all black finish, very nice side window and mesh.

More than enough space for anything you could want inside a case, up to 9 HDD's and Crossfire/SLI wouldn't be a problem.

The fan filters are a godsend, comes with 4 (3 front, 1 side) each are simple to remove and could be cleaned in minutes.

Fan speed controllers are a very nice touch, very quiet when on low and very cool when on high. The top mounted 200mm 'Big Boy' fan is huge and the case is water cooling ready.

The side fan attachment (fan not included for the side though, fan actually clips in which is quick and easy) is aimed directly where the GPU's are, about 50/50 for the primary and slave. Also, the mesh infront of the fan has perspex behind it, can't see it at all but prevents alot of dust entering, which is great as my last case was mostly mesh and just sucked in dust.

I love the concept of having the PSU at the bottom of the case. PSU's with fans on the bottom are mounted upside down. The lowest front intake fan blows air towards the PSU. Mine has 2 80mm (intake at the back) and has been running almost all day and is still cool.

Front IO panel is great, audio is compatible with HD Audio unlike my last case (also has a '97 connection), E-SATAII, 2x USB 2.0 and even a tray on top of the case to hold iPod while charging, blank CD/DVD's, etc.

Comes with a 'wind tunnel' attachment to fix an extra 120mm fan (not included) inside the case in one of the 3 HDD mounts (can't use 3 of the HDD spaces though, but has a total of 9) to speed up the airflow into the motherboard area or towards the PSU.

Cables can be routed behind the motherboard tray, increasing airflow and keeps it looking tidy.

Cons; (though very few and insignificant, nothing is perfect, but this case is about as close as you can get)

Two of the three small dials on the front to control the intake fan speeds are upside down, might be a mistake on mine but they work fine.

One of the supplied LED fans glows a slightly different shade of blue, again, not a problem or even noticable and could only be mine, just mentioning.

Currently using case with;

Saphire Pure Crossfire 3200 Mobo

AMD Athlon 64 X4 6400+ Black Edition @ 3.2GHz

ATi Radeon X1950FZ

2GB Corsair XMS2 DDR2 800MHz 4-4-4-12

Arctic Power 700w PSU

Overall a brilliant case, well worth the money, a definate 5 stars for the case and 5 stars to Ebuyers brilliant service.

Moaners
review by: Andy Angell operating system: Windows Vista

I wish people would refrain from moaning all the time, manufacturers sometimes slip expected release dates for various reasons. I have requested info regarding this case on a couple of occasions and I can only say that all the staff at Ebuyer have been most helpful.

Size of case

I recently purchased this case it is truely amazing with six fans that keep it so cool.

You really need to measure the size of it my old computer case was 17" high and on a trolley and my new case just barely fits. I think I'm going to have to do away with the trolley and put shelves in.

A lot of room in the case I could not believe how heavy it was when full.

when?
review by: Anonymous operating system: Windows Vista

Pre ordered mine with Ebuyer as well. It seems all the other big internet retailers have stock but not Ebuyer?. I am sure it will be a fantastic case WHEN it finally does arrive. Does anyone actually know when that will be though?

Fantasi-case
review by: Simon MacManus rating:

I love this case, I purchased on pre-order a while back and although I was slightly taken aback by just how big it really is, I think it's a superb unit. Everything was easy to install, with no "figuring out" required. it was all nice and straight-forward, the case is wonderfully made with no sharp edges, and the fans aren't nearly as loud as the Hexus.net review made out, sure compared to a HTPC system it's frighteningly loud but compared to your normal high-end gaming case? it's fine, the fans become a dull hum if you have them ALL turned up to max but then only the most hardcore gamers would do that. My only other critisisms are that you only get one 5.25 drive bay converter for external drives, I had to choose between my floppy and my media reader (guess the age of the floppy really is dead!) and the fact that the chassis isn't reversible, my system unit sits to my left so I can only enjoy the blue leds on the front, but then that's only a minor erk!

This is a great case, one of the best I have used, its neat and tidy with plenty of room inside, although not as big as some of the full tower cases, this certainly is one of the best. Dont be fooled by reviews which says its noisy, the fans create a pleasing hum. 5/5.

A pleasure to build in
review by: Jon H rating:

operating system: Windows Vista

I recently received my unit after having a series of hardware failure forcing a new motherboard, so i took the opportunity to get a proper case.

As soon as I began to replace the I/O plate for my motherboard, i soon realised how quickly this computer was going to be up & running.

The front panel access to USB and E-SATA is nicely laid out, and the incredibly tiny blue led for drive activity is discreet yet noticeable when you need to see it.

The cable routing compartment and cable ties, a 3.5 bay frame and mounting plate, Antec look like they took their time designing most of it.

The flexi-drive bay system is also very good, as well as including the filters for the front 3 fans and the side panel fan.

Whilst i agree on niggles such as the fan LEDs and complete on/off control of the fans, I could see this being an excellent opportunity for people with this case to mod a switch unit for fan control into place.

Antec would do well to revise this case just to include a switch unit for the fans & leds or just sell a unit for which users could install easily replacing the back switch.

After such a horrid experience with a generic clear perspex case, the Antec 1200 was a good investment, and has just reminded me of how much pleasure building your own PC unit can give.
