Really good processor.
operating system:Windows 7Upgraded from a x4 955 and 890gx to i5 2400 and asus p67 pro.
Installation was stupidly simple, especially if you are going to use the stock cooler (clips), but i have stuck a hefty coolermaster v6gt (awkward mounting brackets and screw system) on it and it was still easy enough to do. One thing i would say is do not be worried at how difficult the socket clamp is to secure, mine was and the cpu is fine.
Stock speeds are, more than enough for everyday users and gamers, but i have used the settings that bit tech used to ramp it up a little (up to 3.99 ghz).

I didn't record any frames or anything but games just feel smoother. But the best think about this chip is the low power consumption (also on bit tech), which will allow me to sli a gtx 460 on a 600w psu easily.
Bit tech say you'll get more for your money with the k chips, but for me this is more than enough and i would recommend it.
Very nice processor
operating system:Windows 7For any applications you want to run, this cpu will do it with no problem. I bought a PC with one of these and they're very good. 3.1ghz clock is fairly fast and intel's turbo boost technology can further boost this to up to 3.8, making this a pretty fast cpu. The only problem is, this processor is core multiplier locked, which means there is barely any overclocking headroom. However, if you want to overclock save up the extra £20 and buy the 2500k. (this point is quite irrelevant, just some useful information) But despite this, there really is no need to OC as it is fast enough as it is. I have done a fair amount of gaming on the intel HD2000 integrated gpu, and the results are surprisingly good. I can achieve playable framerates on games like COD4, and Team Fortress 2, so it is ideal if you are waiting to save up for a proper GPU or casually game once in a while. The stock cooler supplied is actually very good, nice and quiet... and I have never seen this processor hit higher than 40 degrees. (however haven't done proper benching) These are very good if you have no interest in overclocking. Note that these are much better value for money than the sandy bridge i7's :) 5 stars
One small chip for mankind , ,
operating system:Windows 7Have upgraded from an E6750 to this chip along with the mobo and RAM etc. Things do seem to run better, but I have also moved from 32bit to 64 bit at the same time.
Not into games figures, but Civ V is distinctly faster, especially in the later stages, but could be the the 5700 series graphics card I moved to!
Windows 7 Experience has gone up from 6.1 to 7.4.
Certainly can't see any reason to buy one of the old i5s etc. unless you have an old mobo.
Also agree with the first review about the difficulty of fitting the cooler fan - it is very quiet though. Intel really needs to look at this - I was afraid of breaking the mobo while fitting it
Will be interesting to see how long it lasts now that Intel have discovered a fault in the new 1155 chips!
best option if not an overclocker
operating system:Not ApplicableHave recently upgraded my system from a Core2Duo E6750 (2.66Ghz) and I have been more than impressed
Entire system feels and runs much quicker now but bare in mind I have also upgraded to Windows 7 64-bit and use a Corsair Force 60 SSD as my OS drive.
This was the best option for me as I do not plan to overclock so there was no need to spend an extra £50 or so getting the i5-2500k and a P67 motherboard.
I have paired this with an ASUS P8H67-M Pro and 4GB (2x2GB) Corsair XMS3 9-9-9-24 1.5v memory.
Power consumption at idle was 51-54w and around 115-120w at 100% load with default motherboard settings. However I have undervolted the CPU to 1v (down from 1.165v) and the RAM to 1.4v and now the system uses between 46-51w at idle and 99w at 100% load (turbo and llc have been disabled). It uses about 60-65w for general tasks such as web browsing, playing music and movies, etc. In comparison my old E6750 system (at stock) used 100w idle with a 5,400rpm HDD and a HD4670 Ultimate graphics card.
Temps with the stock cooler are around 30c idle and 54c at 100% load but the cooler emits an annoying whine of a noise so I've bought an aftermarket heatsink which will reduce temps further.
If you're after a low power quad core system which is pretty much futureproof for the majority of users then this is an ideal option, especially if you undervolt it to save a bit of power. The 2400s is a waste of money as all Sandy Bridge systems use the same amount of power when idle and the power saving at 100% load on the 2400s doesn't justify the lower clock speed.
