LIke Yoda... small but powerful!

Just replaced an Athlon 64 4000+ with one of these; expected it to be a fair bit faster but the jump in performance is just astonishing! Plus it's quieter and runs a lot cooler.

Only 'gotcha' is that the CPU fan only starts turning once the BIOS has booted - thought I had a faulty one when I first fired it up!

Stunning Performance, another great Intel CPU

Fitted this processor to a Asus P5K motherboard. A simple bios update and the CPU was up and running. I saw a 500 point jump in my 3dmark06 score. Using a Sapphire 3870 and an e6750, I got a score of 10250. Using the e8400 I got 10770. Not much more expensive than the e6750, but gives a good leap in performance. I have had no problems with heat issues, using an Artic cooling freezer, the e8400 runs at a cool 26 Celsius.

Max voltage 1.45v
review by: Anonymous rating:

I have upgraded from an E4300 in an Asus P5b-deluxe 1226 Bios

needed.First day had running at 1.51v as shown in cpu-z;not a good idea! Apparently some boards overvolt and I found out some chips have degraded after a couple of days above 1.45v which is the intel maximum.so I reccomend checking voltages first in bios then cpu-z and set to the lowest voltage and definitely under 1.4v.Fsb termination voltage I think is max 1.1v for this chip but my board bios only goes to 1.2v?

Tjmax reads 105c on coretemp and 49c max on 4ghz 1.325v core volts with prime.95.Seems

some debate on temp readings with E8400.

Also does 3ghz at 1.1v ,1.06 with vdroop and temps max 38cwith prime running.

Probrably worth a gamble if you have E4x00 or lower.

5* cpu for price and quality.

for those with temp problems try realtemp, it reads my processor 25c core temperature oc'd to 3.8 on 1.35v.

core temp reads them at ~35.

although external of processor is read at -1 to -5.

what a cool chip
review by: david thomas os: Windows Vista

ive just slammed one of these babies into my asus maximus formula i38 motherboard, no problems what so ever cranked it up to 400 in the bios so it runs @ 3.6GHz (i will do the real overclocking later), very fast chip, Decided to run it on vista ultimate OS, with the coolmaster sphere it has a temp of just 17 degrees and ive been installing and downloading and playing music simultainisly for about 5 hours now and the temp has not moved, it hasnt gone above 20 degrees while playing crysis on max settings for an hour. good price very fast chip and i suspect gonna be able to handle a monster overclock too.

a hell of a lot of chip for a small price.

replaced an amd Athlon 64 4200+ with this, lightning speed difference... excellent.. I have to say after being an AMD head for many years, I'm very glad I went Intel this time... very fast and reliable processor! ( and good value in my opinion, comparable to amd finally)

Bought an E8400 a few months back and have had no problems with it. Clocked to 4ghz nicely (1.26v after vdroop) using an ASUS wifi board and a zerotherm nirvana cooler (63degrees at 2 hours orthos). Highly recommended!!

had one of these bad boys in my system for over 3 months now, cant fault it at all, got it clocked at 4ghz and its very fast, doesnt get too hot under load at that speed, have pushed it to 4.4 ghz but she gets hot under load so would need to go water cooled at that speed. love it.
