Still a great chip

Although there are lots of newer processors around, for the skt 478, this chip is fantastic. I bought this to replace my 2.8, because some of my favourite games of the moment need a bit more welly. Coupled with my Abit AI7, and a Zalmon 7000b alcu h/f, i am running this chip at 3.3 gig, with idle temp at 34c and 54c at load. Faces of war now plays exactly as i want it too (and if you know that game, then that statement is bold indeed)and the performance has increased dramatically in all areas. For this price you really can't go wrong. Great overclock-ability, so much cooler than the prescott. Has given a complete new lease of life for my ageing system.

Very happy with my purchase, and great delivery from ebuyer, beat my estimated delivery day by 2 days

In case you don't know
review by: Simon Brewin operating system: Windows XP

This is an OEM chip, so in case you don't know (like me) it's just the chip, no instructions or other stuff. If you don't have any already you'll need some thermal gel/grease to put between the chip and the heatsink eg Quickfind 72291 or similar, and some solvent to clean the old grease off like meths/white spirit or switch cleaner fluid.

Theres lots more in the forums about upgrading and installing cpus. Be warned, it's not always a case of just dropping in a new chip and off you go. You will need to stay within your motherboards maximum FSB (front side bus) speed, and get the right number of pins (the skt or socket number). Hopefully with this knowledge you won't make the same mistakes I did
