Advice for Paul.
Hi. If you plan to purchase any of the FX bulldozer cpu's, then you will definitely need to purchase an AM3+ motherboard. You may also need to flash the BIOS to the latest firmware so that the motherboard will accept the BD cpu. I had to flash the BIOS to latest firmware PRIOR to installing cpu (if you dont then mb & BD cpu may not work - as I learned). Since I was migrating from Intel to AMD (and I did not have a spare AMD Athlon or Phenom cpu lying around, I just asked Novatech if they could do it for me (and they did!). Depending on your budget, you may want to wait until February or March 2011, because that is when AMD will be releasing their new 1090FX AM3+ motherboard and their piledriver cpu (which is bulldozer, markII). AMD will also be releasing their brand new 7000 series PCIE3 graphics cards at this time. Hope this helps.

operating system:Windows 7This is an excellent option for people who game and just want some overclocking fun.
I've found gaming performance is very similar to my old Phenom II X4, and it scales very well with overclocks - seeing a huge increase in minimum fps with GTA IV at 4.6GHz, for example.
The only limit when overclocking this CPU is cooling, really, it's relentless. Best air overclock I've had is 5.104GHz with a Noctua U12P, but I run it at 4.6GHz 1.46v daily (to save power and heat). Talking about heat, this CPU is incredibly cool at stock, idles at room temperature and barely goes over that at load. Modest overclocks (4.4GHz with low voltage) ran below 45c with my U12P, high overclocks (5GHz) would hit 50c to 55c under load.
FX 4100 is a great CPU, but at its current price point you might be better off buying a Phenom II X4 965. For video encoding, rendering and archiving I've found my 965 was around 20% faster on average, comparing stock for stock. (LegitReviews have a good review of FX 4100, comparing to Phenom II X4/X6 and Sandy Bridge)

just a quick question from PC building beginer
Im getting this Product for christmas for a future build however im confused to what motherboard will except it, I read that any motherboard with an AM3+ socket will work but in motherboard AM3+ reviews it says nothing about the FX being compatible only phenoms athlons and semperons, thank you for your time
