Very good competitor to the Q6600
operating system:
Windows XPBought this chip for a friend's PC I was building when the Q6600 was out of stock everywhere (we budgeted 150 pounds for a quad core chip, and this was the next best thing to the Q6600).
The multiplier is lower (7x), so you'll need a good motherboard and RAM to overclock it very much. Without overclocking, it's still amazingly fast though.
With a 40 pound OCZ 4GB PC6400 set, I got this chip to 3.2GHz with no instability. In fact, it was that stable at this speed, that I dropped the VCORE all the way down to 1.2v! I wasn't intending on overclocking much over 2.8GHz, but this chip (coupled with the ASUS P5K Premium) was just hungry for more speed. All other voltages in the BIOS were at their default settings, with just the VCORE being different (lower than default).
It actually went even faster with a few voltage tweaks(3.8GHz), but I wouldn't want to leave that as a 24/7 overclock in a system that's not my own!
With the right memory, I could see this chip getting much, MUCH higher than what I've done here, however the northbridge was starting to get toasty with a FSB of over 460MHz (and to get close to 4GHz you'd need something over 550MHz!).
An excellent chip (appart from the low mutiplier if you're an overclocker).
Highly recommended.
Friggin amazin!
operating system:
Windows XPThis CPU will blow you away! Its 4 cores give you ultimate power! I recently bought this and put it in my system. I'm mostly a gamer and every now and then video editing and this cpu is.. unbelieveable. My graphics card is not that great (an nvidia geforce 7950GT) and with this processor my games have been BOOSTED beyond believement. Crysis for example, one of the most physically challanging games to run atm on PC, I am able to run with all setting on high with a fair 25 FPS. Now remember, my gfx card is not great.. Infact a 7 series and This is VERY playable on high settings! Just imagine the potential with a better graphics card! with 4 gigs of ram at 800mhz, this cpu and a 7950GT gfx card.. This alone is a huge factor in making my computer a modern beast!
AMAZING!

If your looking for extra frames in your games with the ability to record without any loss either, id 100% suggest this CPU before a gfx card. This alone is a huge factor in making my computer a modern beast!
Great
operating system:
OtherUsed this in a recent build, under Windows7 it scores 7.1 in the windows experience index!
Good for overclocking.
operating system:
Windows VistaExcellent for frying! Just make sure that your board and ram is up for it. I personally use Asus P5Q3 Deluxe!
Fantastic!!
operating system:
Windows XPUpgraded to this from a Core 2 Duo E4300. Performance improvement is amazing! Using this on an MSI P43 Neo with 2 gig memory, Gainward HDMI graphics card and WD 1TB drive.. From clicking on the start button to being able to open Firefox is 45 seconds.
Best bang per buck
operating system:
Windows XPI researched the living snot out of the market and I have to say I think this is the best processor for your money right now. Not just because of the price/performance but because the price of socket 775 mobos is so cheap.
I used it to build a budget gaming PC for my son and it rocks. I did't have any problems with the stock heatsink and it runs cool and quiet.
I wish I had bought this for my own build instead of an i7 which is not worth the cost.
Excellent value, great performance
operating system:
Windows VistaI finally took the plunge and replaced my old E4300 and I couldn't be happier.
I'm a gamer and have been able to both max the quality settings, increase AA AND get double the FPS.
CPU runs at a temp I'm happy with, the cooler was low profile in comparison to other intel stock heatsink/fans and doesn't seem to be any less useful.
I haven't tried overclocking it yet, mostly since there seems no need for me right now, but my experience with intel is that they will generally give at least 25-33% over stock without issue.
If you are thinking of making the step to quad core this is an excellent chip to do so.
This is a really powerful CPU
operating system:
Windows VistaI built a system with this processor, and it blew me away. It is really fast and runs Windows Vista really really well.
Highly recommend it.
I have not yet tried to overclock it.
Pretty good...
operating system:
Windows VistaGot this on Thursday and great next day delivery...Thanks eBuyer ;D
But...I'm not too happy with the heat sink, I recommend buying your own instead. Mine is running at an average of 37c, but that's with two big fans and a huge 36cm fan running at full power. The fan is also hard to put in as I found and a friend also did.
The Processor itself scores a 5.9 in Vista, as was said before and so far it's running like a dream, though, if a game is based mainly on CPU, this isn't the one for you. But in terms of speed, it's very good and I would recommend it for you.
Loss of a star due to the heatsink.
