Budget Performance

The AMD Athlon II X4 620 processor is easily overlooked but actually offers very usable performance at a budget price point. Single threaded performance (at default clock frequency) is inferior to the Athlon II X2 250 and the Phenom II X2 550 BE processors, but in applications that support multi-threading (most everyday applications now support this) the Athlon II X4 620 offers considerably better performance - check out the AnandTech & techPowerUp reviews. This processor will actually overclock to 3.6 GHz, at which point it offers comparable performance to the Phenom II X4 965 BE, a processor which costs twice as much. techPowerUp gave the AMD Athlon II X4 620 processor their 'Editor's Choice' award. Coupled with an AMD 785G (SB710) motherboard, this processor offers serious value for money.

Wow - This processor really packs a punch. At this price, it is an absolute bargain! If you're on a tight budget but want usable performance from your PC then give this processor serious consideration. It is power efficient too. Little Belter!

I was looking to upgrade my CPU, Motherboard and Memory and stumbled across this new offering from AMD. Although I only have a Gigabyte M55S-S3 AM2 motherboard (not even AM2+) I thought I would see if it would work. The chip is correctly identified by the BIOS even though it is not officially supported on this MB, and the machine booted first time.

Running at stock this was so much better than the Athlon X2 4200 it replaced - Windows is far more responsive than before. Although the HT bus on my motherboard does not run anywhere near what the chip supports, I have seen very little difference in synthetic or real world testing.

I have easily overclocked it to 3Ghz on air and it still runs considerably cooler than my old X2 4200, idle is low to mid 30's and load is mid 40's!

Overall this is a fantastic new chip from AMD - OK its never going to win when compared against the Intel i-Series of even the Q9xxx series, but it costs at least half as much, can be used with older hardware and gets users into the world of quad core processing for very little outlay! Oh and it overclocks like a dream on air with reports of stable at 3.7Ghz

In a word - Brilliant - thanks AMD :-)

This cpu is cracking. Just built a new pc around this chip and I must say its no dissapointment. Overclocks very well dispite not been a black edition chip mine is very stable running at 3.6ghz and with temps of 41c under full load. I beleve I could push this cpu even further but even at the min it seems faster than my 720 black edition phenom cpu which is over clocked to 3.4ghz even though the athlon does not have the L3 casch. Multi tasking is great and so is gaming and right out of the box windows 7 rates this cpu as a 7.2 which given the price to performance ratio you get alot of bang for the buck. I would say to anyone planning to overclock this cpu to buy an aftermarket cooler as the stock one seems to be worse than usual. I bought the arctic cooling freezer 7 pro rev 2 and I must say its amazing for about £17 here on ebuyer and well worth the spend. Overall this is a fantastic cpu and should not be overlooked by anyone. Hope this info helps.

Small Heatsink

I would strongly recommend that anyone intending to overclock this CPU should discard the stock heatsink that comes in the box and replace it with something with heatpipes and greater surface area. The stock heatsink is all aluminium (no sign of a copper core) and is smaller than the heatsink which came with my ancient 939-pin Athlon 3000+.

The CPU is an excellent overclocker, but the standard heatsink is too small when increasing clock speeds.

Excellent VFM and stable + reasonable overclock

Bought this as package for cheap upgrade with an MSI 770-C45 MB and I am not disappointed.

This is excellent VFM.

Over clocked to 3.3GhZ with no volt increase just reduce the NB and Hyper multiplier to 8X. Must change cooler though I used OCZ Vendetta V1. Runs games very well (Farcry 2/ NFS shift/ left4dead) transcode's 3hr DVD to MPG4 in 38 min.

A dual core would be faster on single threaded apps but software is changing to multi thread so will use all cores. Also with anti virus and all manner of updates going on in the background multi core is becoming necessary.

Would definitely recommend.

Great Processor

I got this for my System at Christmas and it is amazing. You can convert a film to ipod format at 1/8 of the length of the film (ie. A 1hr 30 film takes around 12 minutes)

Best value for money processor you can get. Dual Core is becoming old and quad cores are good and future proofed.

I have not tryed to O/C it as I am wary of it failing but thats just me. If you O/C it you will see even better performance (obviously)

Sub £75 - BARGIN!

Currently have this CPU with a Gigabyte 785GMT and 4gb ddr3 at 1600mhz.

For the money this is seriously powerful and the overclocking ability is huge. I haven't found a single application or game yet this has struggled with and i'm still at stock speeds.

With the stock heatsink and fan i have an idle of 29c!

If you want performance on a budget look no further.
