Overview

Product Description

D-Link, the industry pioneer in wireless networking, introduces another performance breakthrough in wireless connectivity - the D-Link AirPlus G series of high-speed devices.

The D-Link AirPlus G DWL-G510 PCI Adapter is a wireless PCI adapter featuring the very latest in advanced wireless silicon chip technology to deliver incredibly fast data transfer in the 2.4GHz frequency. The DWL-G510 also works with 802.11b standard wireless devices and when used with other D-Link AirPlus G products delivers throughput speeds capable of handling heavy data payloads.

The D-Link AirPlus G DWL-G510 also includes a configuration utility to discover available wireless networks and create and save detailed connectivity profiles for those networks most often accessed. The DWL-G510 is a powerful 32-bit PCI adapter that installs quickly and easily into desktop PCs and when used with other D-Link AirPlus G products automatically connects to the network. Like all D-Link wireless adapters, the DWL-G510 can be used in ad-hoc mode to connect directly with other 2.4GHz wireless computers for peer-to-peer file sharing or in infrastructure mode to connect with a wireless access point or router for access to the Internet in your office or home network. Also includes low profile half-height adapter.

Easy to install and rock solid

Bought this card to replace an ageing Belkin 802.11b card that needed ndiswrapper to run and constantly lost the connection, despite the signal strength being 80%. This D-Link card, by contrast, took twenty seconds to install and is yet to drop the connection. Just go to http://www.ralinktech.com/supp-1.htm and download the driver titled RT61 (this is the chipset it uses). The readme file can be found in the Modules directory. I can't recommend this card highly enough - cards that install quickly and work well on linux are a rarity!

Easy Install, Fast And Stable Connection!

I first tried a Netgear WG311 v3 thinking it would work fine with my Netgear DG834G Router - BIG MISTAKE! it never worked properly, had awful drivers and was quickly RMA'ed.

So I looked for an alternative - and found this D-Link AirPlus DWL-G510:
+ It installed quickly and easily
+ Worked first time with no hassle
+ Always steady at 54Mbps
+ Included drivers work fine (using Win XP SP2)
+ Rock stable and no dropped connections!!

It does exactly what it's supposed to do, and does it well! 5 Stars!!

Excellent Card for Linux
review by:AJW rating:

The version of this card that shipped from EBuyer in September was the revision C2 with the Ralink chipset. Ralink support is very good - their site has links to the following useful reference - http://rt2x00.serialmonkey.com/wiki/index.php?title=Main_Page

I am using UBUNTU 6.10 - Instructions for installing the RT61 Linux drivers are to be found at -
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiDocs/Driver/RalinkRT61

After following the above instructions and the Ralink "README" that is included with the drivers and after a re-boot, the card worked first time with WEP enabled, SSID not broadcast and MAC address restriction on the router (Netgear WGR-614).

This is an excellent card providing good native driver support for Linux.

Excellent card, no problems

The Aerial was shorter than I thought it would be which at first made me wonder how well it would work. I am in the next room to my router but it's on the far side of that room and through a rather thick wall I am getting signal strength very good to excellent and wireless speeds generally 36-54mbps.

It picks up networks that the wireless in my Dell laptop just can't see.

I installed the drivers and let windows do the work and all is good!

Great card , excellent price
review by:Anonymousoperating system:Windows XP

When thinking of buying a PCI adapter to replace my USB dongle, I considered the D-link DWL-G520 first but some people seem to have had problems with it. I eventually decided to go for the D-link DWL-G510 at two thirds of the price. Very pleased with my choice - the card installed easily runs at 54Mbps and between 92% and 74% strength depending on location. Only slight problem was with Windows XP - you need to untick the 'let windows configure your wireless settings' and rely on the D-link software which works perfectly.

VISTA 64 COMPATIBLE.....
review by:Jon Simpson rating:

operating system:Windows Vista

I bought this card to replace a linksys usb adapter as vista 64 does'nt support them (as yet). Works fantastically well with my bthomehub, excellent signal and consistent 54mps.

Id ignore the instructions about loading drivers then putting the card in your pc. Just put the 64 drivers on a cd/pen drive (available from the austrailian D-Link site), pop the card in, boot up, copy drivers to desktop, then go to device manager, find the card, select update driver, navigate to the drivers on your desktop and hey presto.

If your looking for a wireless card to work with vista 64, look no further!

Very quick and simple to install, be aware that the disk does not contain Vista 64 drivers.
I got mine from here

Overall great value for very little cash.

D-link G510

Wow, what a great card for the money. I had originally ordered the Safecom SWLPT-54125 to match my router, but I had this as a second choice.
A breeze to install, ensuring the drivers were loaded first, found the network immediately, set my configuration and was connected within 15 minutes.
The only drawback is the wait for windows XP to start up as it takes about a minute for the D-link software to complete its start up, bit its not a hardship.
I have been running this for 4 daysand ha ve not yet lost a signal.
Took about 3 minutes to upload a 1.7 MB from my network, but downloaded the same test file in 97 seconds.
Highly recommended card and very good software.

Can't recommend this highly enough for Linux users. I ordered it after finding it was Linux friendly, but i still expected to have to recompile the kernel. But i was very pleasantly surprised when Ubuntu (8.04.1) picked up the card, and my wireless home network instantly and only needed my pre-shared key to get online and surfing! The card shipped to me was a Rev.C model using a Ralink RT61 chipset.
