Netgear WG311 54Mbps Wireless PCI Adapter
Power-packed 802.11b/g Wireless Networking for Your Desktop
At 54 Mbps, the Netgear WG311 54G Wireless PCI Adapter is much faster than existing 11 Mbps wireless networks and will supercharge the delivery of media-rich content to your desktop PC as never before. The Netgear WG311 easily handles huge digital video and MP3 files, firing them through your network at blazing speeds. It gives you continuous access to your home wireless router or office network, saves the time and expense of installing Ethernet cabling when you want to set up or expand a network, and makes it simple to relocate your desktop PC without rewiring. Moreover, it allows network users to wirelessly share a broadband Internet connection for access to corporate resources, the Internet, and e-mail – all with the highest available level of industry standard WEP encryption security.
Blazing fast
The Netgear WG311 is a high-speed 802.11g PCI card delivering large files in the blink of an eye – up to five times faster than 802.11b, allowing wireless video streaming for the first time ever. Dynamic rate shifting according to environmental conditions achieves the fastest possible connections.
Efficient
The Netgear WG311 adds convenient mobility and reliable standards-based wireless connectivity to a network from a desktop PC via an 802.11b, 802.11g, or dual-band router or access point. Makes the most of your broadband connection, allowing network users to wirelessly share one IP address. Quickly and easily networks employees for ongoing access to corporate resources, e-mail, and the Internet.
Safe & Simple
Secure 40/64 and 128-bit Wired Equivalency Protection (WEP) encryption allows for secure data transfer and increased shielding from wireless eavesdroppers. The Netgear WG311 supports Virtual Private Network (VPN) pass-through for protected communication over the public Internet. Simple to install and use.

NETGEAR WG311
operating system:
LinuxWorks perfectly with Windows XP and Linux (Mandrake 10 & SuSE 9.1 tested).
Uses the madwifi(Multiband Atheros Driver for WiFi) drivers for Linux. Drivers were a scoosh to install and it worked perfectly with my Linksys wireless router.
The WG311 uses Atheros chipsets. Atheros is one of the few companies who makes linux drivers! Show your appreciation by buying from vendors who support linux!
Excellent
operating system:
Windows XPRunning this with Netgear DG834G. Maximum reception via different floors. Running XP 2500 and Asus A7N8X deluxe. No problems.
Works Great with new drivers
operating system:
Windows XPI was disapointed when I got this but the latest drivers make this a 5 star product. New drivers are 2.0.0.7.
You can get them here
http://kbserver.netgear.com/products_automatic/WG311v2.asp
I use windows xp sp2 and just the drivers. Not all the other software that comes with them I let Windows XP manage the connection. This now works great. The previous drivers were poor.
It now connects as soon as the PC boots up and if you disconnect it it reconnects again without any delay. Works as it should.
No problem with Athlon and Windows 2000
operating system:
Not ApplicableUsing in conjunction with a Netgear DG834G wireless ADSL router, 1.2GHz Athlon on an Abit KT7a motherboard running Windows 2000.
Easy install, transferred over 30Gb from my desktop to laptop in one session with no problems whatsoever, excellent.
No Problem ...
operating system:
Windows XPPentium 4, XP ( professional )
Followed the installation intructions.
Working in 5 minutes. 48-54Mbps thru2 walls with 128Bit WEP.
Cannot be simplier.
Excellent buy.
Good stuff!
operating system:
Windows XPGot mainly so I could share a 1Mb internet connection. Extremely easy to set up. Used in conjunction with Netgear DG834G. Strangely enough I got a better connection once all the security was set up properly: WEP 128, Known MAC address only, No broadcast, etc.... I've opted to NOT let windows configure wireless network settings as you have greater control in the Netgear utility. Like I said, it's important to spend time setting up your router and it's security.
Excellent Card
operating system:
Windows XPI have connected three computer using these cards in conjunction with a NETGEAR WGT624 108Mbps wireless router.
P4 2.4 Ghz (Router with Lan Card)
P3 1.3 Ghz (Wireless Connection with Card)
Athlon 900 Mhz (Wireless Connection with Card)
All using Windows XP-SP1
Once the router was installed, the card automatically found the device.
Set up the workgroup connections using The windows XP set up small office network wizard.
Both machines with cards in get 54mbps connection speed. One downstairs one upstairs.
Been running for almost one year without no problems.
Excellent stable cards
Works in Linux
Netgear Wg311 54mbps 802.11g wireless pci card works fine in Linux with the drivers from www.linuxant.com
the installation is easy, but do not forget that the drivers are not free ( around extra )
reliable hardware otherwise
AMD problems not true
operating system:
Windows XPI have successfully installed 3 of these cards to various AMD Cpu/Motherboard combinations and they all work perfectly. Asus/MSI/Syntax/Gigabyte all without a single hitch.
After reading up on some of the other 54g cards on the market - these seem to have the best record.
Excellent Card
operating system:
Windows XPInstalled on a nForce2 motherboard with AMD 2500+ under Windows XP SP2 (latest updates), no problems at all with the install or the drivers.
Utterly outperforms my previous NIC, which was a Belkin 125g series, which was unable to get a signal most of the time and it was a poor signal when it did, this card never fails to get a signal and operates at 24Mbps at least, despite being in a very bad location.
Recommended.
