What is a smart security kit?

A smart home security system, or kit is a set of internet-connected security gadgets. Kits usually include a combination of a hub (for overall control), motion detectors, CCTV cameras, contact sensors and a siren, although other products can be included too. The security kit is designed to detect when an intruder is trying to get into your property. Certain alarm systems are able to sync up with other smart gadgets such as wireless security cameras, smart locks and voice-controlled devices, like an Amazon Echo for example.

Apps in control

All smart home security systems are operated by a central internet-connected hub. This unit connects wirelessly and communicates with app to control all the individual parts. You can monitor your home easily by using the app on your smartphone or tablet. You will be sent alerts when the alarm goes off, so you can then take the appropriate action, such as calling the police. Some systems are dressed-up as smart alarm systems but are just wireless cameras with extra functions. Of course, these have their uses and they can keep an eye on your home while you are out, but they are not as effective as a dedicated alarm system.

What is an outdoor sounder?

These are a small box which provide a visual deterrent for burglars who are thinking of breaking into your home. Some smart security systems do not come with one of these boxes, and you may have to buy one separately. A smart security kit could actually be any combination of things, so check that the kit you are after all the sort of security you are looking for, otherwise you will have to add to it at further cost. There are other things you may need to consider too, such as device compatibility. Some devices only work with products made by the same brands, whilst others are fine with varying brands. It is always worth doing a little bit of research before you buy.
