The most loved brands used by European countries

No matter your town, city, or country, everyone has at least one favourite brand. Tech, fashion, beauty, and cars; there’s always that one go-to company people pick over all the others. Maybe you just like the style, or perhaps you’ve found them to be more reliable and better quality than their competitors. Either way, they’re the brand you’ve stuck with through thick and thin.

Given the sheer number of brands out there competing for our attention on a daily basis, it can be hard to tell which brands are the most popular in any given part of the world. Do the French prefer Apple to Microsoft? Who are the most popular fashion brands in the Baltic countries?

To see just which brands are the most popular throughout Europe, we turned our sights towards analysing how much positive traction the most famous brands regularly generate, based on social media data.

Using social listening tool Linkfluence, we’ve compiled social media data, to reveal which brands are most popular in four of the most popular European markets:

  • Tech
  • Fashion
  • Beauty
  • Automotive

Based on the data, here are Europe’s favourite leading brands.

Europe’s favourite tech brand

When it comes to tech, the two biggest competitors everyone thinks about are typically Apple and Microsoft. Naturally, you’d expect both brands to score pretty highly for popularity in most countries.

Apple doesn’t disappoint on this front, and is clearly the most popular tech brand in Europe, based on social data. In fact, thirteen of the twenty-eight countries we analysed favour Apple as their favourite tech brand.

But what does come as some surprise is Microsoft’s rather low ranking in comparison. Despite appearing on all our selected countries’ lists, Microsoft fails to land a spot as any’s favourite tech company.

Other popular tech companies include the likes of Google and Tesla, both of which appear three times as the top choice for some countries, but Apple dwarves their number of top spots considerably.

Europe’s top fashion brand

Turning towards the fabulous and the dazzling, the jostling for pole position when it comes to the most used fashion brand across European countries is incredibly close. According to our data, there’s only a difference of one country between the two top contenders.

Despite the close-run race, French luxury fashion company Dior just takes the top spot, with seven countries having it as their most popular fashion choice, according to social data. H&M comes in a close second, with six, while other well-known brands such as Zara, Nike, and Adidas also make the list in varying numbers.

All of this goes to show that when it comes to fashion, everyone has different tastes, but everyone also knows exactly what they like.

The most popular beauty brands in Europe

When it comes to makeup brands, there’s a huge variety to select from in every country. It seems new companies are popping up every year, but it also seems that the older, bigger brands are still favoured by most nations.

With the social media love of nine countries, Maybelline swipes first spot from the rest of the competition. Much like Apple’s tech dominance, other popular beauty brands simply don’t come close to Maybelline; L’OREAL Paris and Mac are the next most popular brands, with four countries apiece, while the remaining countries all find a range of brands as their preferred option.

This certainly highlights the sheer variety in beauty brands out there, but perhaps it’s a good thing that so many brands are so popular rather than one singular company.

The top automotive company in Europe

Last but not least, we come to the automotive industry. Whether you’re a petrolhead or simply a casual driver, most people have a favoured brand of car.

Unsurprisingly, with their rich history of car development, it’s the German companies BMW and Mercedes that dominate the top spot as the most popular brands across Europe. BMW is the most popular, being preferred by nine of the countries we analysed, but Mercedes follows close behind with six.

The remaining brands are an eclectic mix of many well-known companies, with the odd surprise thrown in, such as Bugatti being the most popular car brand in Estonia.

It seems that no matter which country you go to, you’re sure to see a brand you know and recognise out on the high street. Even though we all speak different languages and have different cultural norms, when it comes to good, quality brands, we all have good taste.
