35 Games Leaving PlayStation Plus in May, Including Marvel’s Spider-Man

35 games are being removed from the PlayStation Plus Games Catalogue in May Get those platinum trophies while you still can!

Sony has released the line-up of PlayStation Plus Monthly Games for May 2023. Three new games are joining the gaming subscription service – GRID Legends, Chivalry 2, and Descenders – and they’ll be available to all PlayStation Plus Essential, Extra, and Premium subscribers from May 2nd until June 6th.

As is the case every month, just as many old games are removed from the PlayStation Plus Extra/Premium Game Catalogue than new ones added. This month is pretty brutal, however, with a grand total of 35 games leaving the subscription service on May 15th. That’s 25 more games than last month, and this list of departures includes a few big-names titles, the biggest of which being Marvel’s Spider-Man.

You’d think Sony’s first-party titles, like Marvel’s Spider-Man, would stay on Sony’s subscription service indefinitely. Xbox Game Pass, for instance, essentially has the entirety of Xbox’s first-party library. This indicates that no game is safe from removal from the PlayStation Plus Extra/Premium Game Catalogue, even one Sony has complete ownership of. That being said, if you want to get caught up for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 later this year, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales is still available on PlayStation Plus Extra for the time being.

PlayStation Plus Essential, Extra, and Premium – What’s the Difference?

Around this time last year, Sony split PlayStation Plus into three different subscription services: Essential, Extra, and Premium. PlayStation Plus Essential operates much in the same way as the original. You’ll still be able to play Essential titles after they’ve left the service, including Monthly Games, given you redeem them to your account beforehand.

Titles from the PlayStation Plus Extra/Premium Game Catalogue work differently, however. Once they’re gone, they’re gone forever – even if you’ve downloaded them already. So, if you’re in the middle of one of these titles, make sure you wrap your playthrough up and collect those platinum trophies before May 15th.
